100% a scam

100% a scam. Went through the whole process up until after they took my payment. I’m a first time author so I have been aware it will cost money. When I initially talked to these people Mateo was supposed to be the person who helps me. He was trying to get me to pay $900 for the middle package. Then when he found out I was a student he got me a “sponsorship” with that I got the approval letter and editorial review, I was crying and so excited I was going to be published. Until I saw the real b and n website that there is a scam going around. I gave them my money because I was told this was real. They are terrible people who rob people of the best experience they should get to have. I made sure to record everything and I will be suing them if I don’t get my money back.

If I could give this company a zero…

If I could give this company a zero star review I would, I was sexually harassed over the work app “Base-Camp” by my project manager whom I trusted my manuscript with for months, which ironically, my book was about being violated. This made me even more scared to think, “ did he actually do his job of truly reading my book?” Or was the editorial review a hoax? Not to mention, I went back and caught numerous errors on the book blurb and even in the book, which is funny since they said apart of the “global publishing package” comes with proof reading.

Not to mention, they have this “sponsorship marketing program” which tells you everything you want to hear, but the only problem is, they aren’t actually affiliated with Barnes & Noble. My project manager told me I qualified for 50% sponsorship and kept pushing me to pay more money. When I said I couldn’t put down any more than what I already agreed to, his response was “ desperation leads to poor decisions.”

Furthermore, after my project manager sent sexual messages over base-camp. He proceeded to stalk my social media, except it wasn’t under the name I knew him as, it was his real name. I suspected the person looking at my Instagram story was him, so I looked him up on LinkedIn and sure enough it was my project manager who used a different name the whole time. This company is the furthest thing from trustworthy!!

Scary Experience

I thought I was going through Barnes & Noble, but it is not Barnes & Noble. When I realized that I had already been chatting with someone and agreed (in a chat) to proceed with the process to begin publishing my book. When I saw that they were NOT part of Barnes & Noble, I was told that they are publishing and selling books through Barnes & Noble.

I gave my cc number and then I started looking at reviews and how new the company is and that their website has redacted a lot of their information, so I became cautious. "Scam Advisor" pointed out other suspicious aspects of the company such as how new they are and disproportionate number of reviews vs. the company's age.

I was sent a contract that I didn't sign, and I kept researching their address etc, only to find more suspicious information.

I asked for a refund and I was told that they already invested money in my work (Hmmmmm....all in a half hour?) and they would keep $300. I said I would go through my cc company and block the charge and I was told that they'd take me to court. I said they'll have to take me to court then. I was told that I didn't need to sign the contract because they had a verbal approval from me, so I was bound to the contract. How scary is that??

I did get a call shortly after I said to take me to court, and was told that my money was fully refunded, and the cc company said that they did issue a full refund, but I changed my cc anyway because this was a very creepy feeling and experience!

May 9, 2025 1105 hrs UPDATE: I was just contacted by "Jennifer" who told me that if I don't take this review down then they will publish my manuscript. I was threatened to take this review down or there would be legal action taken against me. I was again told that I am in a contract with them based on a conversation we had, though nothing was ever signed.

I am very much regretting that I ever clicked on their "Barnes and Noble" link. They have the opportunity to respond to this review if they want but they chose to threaten me and essentially said that they would steal my copyrighted material.

This is a very scarry company

The young people are nice, but many do not understand spoken English and get confused very easily. Talking to my project manager is very difficult. She misunderstands me but then goes ahead and starts talking as if she does.

There is a "basecamp" but you cannot speak to anyone else in the company.

I have a very good novel--my second--read by several top readers, but we've been working on this ms since November, and it's been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life.

I had a conversation with one intelligent young woman--Michelle--but she won't contact me back, even though I provide her with my text/phone .

Maybe things will get better, but at this point it's a bit of a nightmare--late, inaccurate messages, missed deadlines. I have a PhD in lit and can't believe I didn't research this company more. I think the name Barnes and Nobel imbedded in their name made me assume they we a good company, but they have nothing to do with the national company Barnes and Noble.

Maybe things will get better. I'll be glad to revise my review if they do, but at this point it's been a bit of a nightmare.

I'd love to talk to the manager or owner, but you are not allowed to contact anyone.
