Blatant overcharging

This summer 2025 I rented a car from Avis in Gothenberg Sweden for seven weeks and quoted a cost of 19821.89 SEK for the whole period.
On arrival I was unable to drive myself as I had pneumonia, for which I was hospitalised that day. As a result, I added my wife as a named additional driver for 500 SEK. The staff at Avis advised us that as our rental was greater than one month the initial contract would be for one month and then a second contract for the remainder would be emailed to us.
On returning the car to Avis at Gothenberg airport I asked for a breakdown of the final charges but never received it despite my emailing them again on 14 October 2026, when I received two extra debits to my credit card of 799.18 SEK and 562.50 SEK.
The initial period charged 275.00 SEK premium location fee presumably for picking up the car at the airport and 75.00 SEK vehicle licence fee.
The second period was overcharged 850.00 SEK. This was because I was again charged the additional driver fee of 500.00 SEK for my wife, another 275.00 SEK premium location fee, even though I never went back to the airport, until I dropped the car off at the end of the seven weeks, another vehicle licence fee of 75.00 SEK and 600.00 SEK for congestion charge x 10.
As a result, I was overcharged 850.00 SEK ($91.69 US).
I cannot in any way recommend renting from Avis or its partners and I am most unsatisfied with Avis in my attempts to resolve these unauthorised deductions from my credit card.

Avis - worst car rental ever, never again

I rented a 7 seater in Sundsvall Sweden. I returned it a day before, it was full of diesel, cleaned and without damage. The manager inspected the vehicle and I got an ok from him, that everything was right. After a few days I see on my bank card that they deducted 800sek from my account! I contacted them 4 times to see why they charged me if everything was fine, their response is always, that they don't know the reason and they will investigate and will send me an email when they have an answer. I am 100% sure that they will never contact me cause they have no reason !

They are real scammers!

AVIS - probably never again

So bad and probably never again AVIS! Yesterday it took over 3 hours to pick up a rental car we had booked at LAX airport after a long day of travel. The first 2 hours were spent in a very slow queue. When we finally got to the employee who was supposed to help us get the car we had booked, a 7-seater SUV, it turned out they didn't have one. They wanted me to choose a regular passenger car or upgrade to a larger SUV at a cost of 65 USD per day for 17 days. I could also choose to wait a little longer and a car that matched my booking would come in. I chose to wait and after a few minutes I was told where I could pick up the car. Imagine my surprise when my family and I arrived at the parking lot and there was a small Mazda that we couldn't possibly fit in our suitcases. Next line, lots of other customers have had bad experiences, several families have been assigned the wrong cars, some families have been assigned the same cars, some have been directed to empty parking spaces. The customer service person in the garage could not help me because they still did not have a car that matched my booking. My patience ran out and I demanded to speak to a manager. I then quickly spoke to a solution-oriented manager who said that I would get a large Ford SUV that was larger than the one I had booked. It looked like it had just arrived because it looked like they had not had time to wash it on the outside, since it looked fresh on the inside I thanked them and thought that we could get going. I got the keys and a printed receipt. On my way to my family and suitcases that were next to the little Mazda, I read that it said I had approved an upgrade that cost 40 USD, which I had not done. I had to find the manager again, he promised to help me remove the extra cost but he couldn't do it again and I was directed up to level 5 again to talk to the manager there. On level 5 it was still chaos with lots of customers in line but I was helped to remove the extra cost. Once out on highway 101 the car's tire pressure started to be too low so we had to start by turning into a gas station and filling up. Now I hope for a nice semester without having to contact AVIS.

Reserved a Peugeot delivery van

Reserved a Peugeot delivery van, or similar, and got a Fiat 500! Pretty hard to load with bulky goods.
Same price and with the explanation at front desk that they were in fact similar.
Seriously?
Next time I booked a larger model of delivery van. This time they reserved me a Seat Leon. These people are mental.
Avoid!

Their services is very poor.

Stay away from.Avis, they terrible, their front desk agent at the Midway airport are rude and disrespectful. The have access to you lr card and they will continue to charge your card.

WORST RENTAL CAR COMPANY

I hate this rental agency. Never recommending anyone to book from avis and canceling my membership with them. Book with HERTZ OR SIXT. Can't give a 0 star so compelled to give 1. Would have loved to give negative ratings.
Booked a rental car from the kiruna airport location for pickup at 12.00 pm. Reached airport at 11.30 and the location was closed. On inquiring at nearby Hertz location they said that someone comes when we call them. On calling the number, the great people where on lunch till 12.30. Neither the site mentioned anything about the location being closed nor does the location itself mentions anything. Nothing in email or message. Why be in business when you can't provide proper communication to your customers.
Finally at 12.45 a rude and arrogant lady answered the call and said we are open only when flights arrive. Then why the hell do you allow bookings from the locations at other times. Don't provide that option. She said she called me but it was a blatant lie and I never received any call or any kind of communication.
Finally at 1.00 pm, a rep showed up who was niether sorry nor felt they did anything wron and gave me my car keys. He hoped the lady rep would have kept the car ready and showed us some parking lot. However the car was not present in that lot. On inquiring again with him, he said he was not sure where the car was parked and came out of the airport to search the car with us. Finally we got our car which was all covered in snow with hard ice accumulated on the windows and wind shields. Such a poor and pathetic service. We had to clean the car. If you are charging for a service make sure you provide that service.
I had to return back to stockholm via train and told the rep that we would drop the car at the station which he agreed. He said there is an avis parking lot where we can park the car and put the keys in the box. On the D day, when we arrived at the station there was no parking lot for avis. We tried calling them to get an answer but they were out on snacks. Keep eating and close your business out. No information on where to park and where to put the keys. We missed our train to stockholm.
We had to book a last minute flight to stockholm as we had connecting train to gothenburg. We decided to return the car to airport location. After returning the car I was surprised to see the avis location open. When I told the lady rep about my frustration she hurled abuses at me, was rude and arrogant and said we don't care about your reviews. Such a horrible rep and service. Did not expect this from avis.
When I had come to pick the car, a hertz rep had told me that I am making a mistake booking with them but I did not understand why he said that. I realized it later. The worst car renting experience of my life and never ever booking a car rental with avis.

If you get delayed in picking up your…

If you get delayed in picking up your car they cancel your entire booking and rent the same car to some one else. no matter how long you book like a week or month entire money is gone and nothing is refunded. station manager asked to check with customer care and customer care pointing to station. They said i have accepted terms and condition which are hidden. Customer service seems to be in UK and they are pretty harsh and rude. they just hanged up the call and used bad words. Booking portal is buggy which caused the issue in first place.

Awful

Awful! After loyally renting from Avis for many years, 2 terrible customer service experiences in a row means I will not rent from them again. Always check, and double check your vehicle before heading out. My loyalty to Avis ended when the station manager in Malmo City office accused us of lying when we reported the scratch, and debited my credit card 5 months after the end of the rental for the cost of the repairs.

Dirty methods

Made a reservation, got a price. When invoice came it was much higher. They add costs that was not agreed upon and make you sign. Read EXTREEMLY carefuly what you sign in a hurry, you are up for a nasty surpise. If possible, choose somebody else than AVIS. This was @ Split airport Croatia. NEVER AGAIN. Banana republic methods.

Do not rent a car from AVIS on Alicante…

Do not rent a car from AVIS on Alicante airport. They charge me 750 E in Feb 2020 for damage after inspection when I already have had a ok from the manager in charge!
You Have a lot of other car rentals on the airport to choice!

AVIS NEVER AGAIN... WORST RENT CAR IN THE WORLD

I rent a car for a weekend, everything was ok until i left the car in the main street of stockolm where the agency told me to leave the car.

After i left stockolm and i was in denmark they send me a email with a picture of a little scratch asking me to pay 750 euro for the scratch, casually they always block this amount in your credit card

but different point were not really clear:

- i left the car and the car was ok they didn't check the car with me...too much work for them (such a lazy idiot).. they only ask if everything was ok
- they told me to leave the car in the middle of the street near to the central station and also near to a work in progress site.
- they send me the pictures with the scracth when the car was in a garage...but they didn0't send me the picture about the scratch in the place i left the car, like they told me in the main street of stockolm...
So this clearly means that they checked the car in the street and they didn't find any scratch or dent and then after they moved the car and after they wash the car they found a little scracth..not event he paint was removed in thid dent scratch

ALso there is no way to talk with somebody useful they are such a unprofessional and for have a feedback about the problem they took at least 24/48 hour to reply to your email. so in the end after 1 month i need to contact my lawyer and find out a way to have back my money

Those people are really poor and are not able to take a decision and to find a way to do their job in professional way

this is a bad situation and for sure this will be my last rent with avis. Poor company stealing money with idiot working for them.
