Having an awful time getting a refund…

Having an awful time getting a refund for a failed booking. It is now 8 weeks after my car was not available.
Credit card company involved now. Will never use again. You want my advice? Go on their website, find out who is cheapest for the category car you want and go direct with that firm. That way if anything goes wrong you get your money back straight away.

NO customer service.

Update
We have finally received the full refund .

No customer service.
We rented a car with full insurance , on return the company said there was damage(tiny mark) for which we were charged over 800e.
I have submitted the report to have it refunded as per our insurance. This was over 2 weeks ago. I still have not heard from them and not even an acknowledgment of receiving the request. When I phone it says it is not possible to speak to someone as the queue is too long. I phoned through to sales and they said I will just have to wait to hear from them with no explanation or expected timeline. I will NOT rent again with this company.

I paid the rental fee using my debit…

I paid the rental fee using my debit card, but because I couldn’t provide a credit card at pickup, they refused to give me the car—despite having already charged me. I had also paid for extras like full insurance, but trying to request a refund through their website was a nightmare. No support, no resolution. I ended up having to rent from another company. Extremely disappointing and frustrating.

Our vehicle was given away as from…

Our vehicle was given away as from Alamo by Enterprise as our flight was delayed 3 hours. We had to pay more for an alleged upgrade vehicle. When dropping the car in Palermo, there was an attendant that took the keys but would not give us a receipt as they weren't officially opened. 4 days later we received a charge for alleged damage to the vehicle. We are currently disputing with our credit card company.

Very good experience BUT...

Very good experience with the AutoEurope platform – I have booked cars through them multiple times and never had any issues – until recently. Probably, as a platform, they don’t have direct experience with the individual rental agencies they list.

What happened was the following:

We had an amazing holiday in Santorini, but our experience with Abbycar completely ruined it. Upon returning the vehicle, an employee tried to charge us the entire €350 deposit for a tiny scratch on the bumper. The damage assessment was grossly exaggerated, especially since the car was already in poor condition.

To make matters worse, the employee was so unprofessional and clueless that he even showed us how much they had previously charged other customers for damages, while the car itself was clearly already worn-out.

Upon closer inspection, it is obvious that this scratch could not have occurred during normal movement of the vehicle, as scratches caused this way would have parallel lines. It became clear that the scratch was deliberately inflicted, either during our return in the office or earlier. They even asked for our accommodation address, which is highly unusual – in over 30 years of renting cars worldwide, we have never encountered this.

In short: they created damage and attempted to steal the full deposit. This is a scam. Avoid Abbycar – they will try to rip you off.

I booked a car through AutoEurope with…

I booked a car through AutoEurope with Keddy/Europcar at Mulhouse Airport in France.
According to the voucher, all taxes were included, including the airport surcharge fee.

However, after returning the car, Europcar charged me an additional premium location fee and an environmental contribution, totaling around €26.

I contacted AutoEurope, and they replied that there could be some implicit taxes — which I consider to be a misleading commercial practice under EU consumer law.
After submitting a claim to have these fees refunded, I never received any further response from AutoEurope.

I also contacted Europcar directly, but they referred me back to AutoEurope, leaving the issue unresolved.

Aviod at all costs

Scammers is the first word that comes to mind. I booked a car through Auto Europe at Tenerife South Airport, but they are not based at the airport — they’re somewhere off-site, False advertisment. After arriving late and emailing them, we went to the location only to find there was no car.

I had to take a taxi to my hotel and call Auto Europe the next morning. They told me to return to the airport promptly to collect the car. I did — and again, no car. I called repeatedly (9am, then 11am) and each time was told the same thing. In the end, I never got a car, just wasted time and money traveling back and forth to the airport which was 30 Euros each way ! time and money wasted.
Their customer service is useless — they clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. To make matters worse, Auto Europe is just a broker, not an actual rental company. They’re now refusing to refund my money.

I’ve hired cars plenty of times before, and this is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. Read the reviews — they’re real. Do yourself a favor: book with a proper company and avoid Auto Europe.

Absolutely shocking company

Absolutely shocking company. Until these car rental and intermediary companies are better regulated this is the level of service you can expect… this particular scam is referred to as the late arrival trap.
We arrived at Milan Linate airport to pick up the car we’d booked through ‘Auto Europe’ only to be told by the car rental company ‘Autovia’ that since we had arrived at 15:01, the car we’d booked for pickup at 14:00 was not available and they’d cancelled our booking as we’d arrived 1 hour after their cutoff period. I phoned Auto Europe who were oblivious to the car rental company conditions but suggested it was our fault for being late. I then looked at the Auto Europe T&C’s and noticed that they also have a 2 hour late clause but we were within that, so surely they’d have to honour the booking somehow… wrong, they would refund me or find another booking for me. The alternative booking was quoted at £800 for an economy car for 1 week, well over double the original. I’m sure contractually Auto Europe are in the wrong but it’s hard to think when tired and stressed with a family that are getting increasingly agitated.
Doing a quick run around the airport, other hire car companies would do a walk up rate of ~£700 for the week. So we found ourselves between the devil and deep blue sea.
In the end I decided to get the refund as Autovia took pity on us and gave us a better deal but still not as good as we’d originally booked.
Auto Europe need to understand the T&C’s of the companies they’re working with and reflect that in their own T&C’s. They did have one alternative piece of advice for me, claim the money back from the airline… i.e. blame someone else for their incompetence?
It took well over an hour to sort. I thought I’d witnessed most hire car scams but this was a new one on me. Do they get professionals in to think of ways to extract money out of weary travellers?

Best Prices Great Website

Best Prices Great Website
Your website was straightforward with great filtering on the vehicle features (automatic, A/C, etc.).

The biggest thing was the prices with CDW insurance were at least 30% lower than booking direct on US sites, consolidators or individual brands.

Differing options between AE and supplier Payless

This review is more about the supplier, Payless, than Auto Europe. Supplier offered more on their website than available through Auto Europe. Confirmed by phone that extras could be paid upon collection. At collection, supplier was forceful that I must pay their extra insurance (Ok, seen this before). I felt tricked and blackmailed, so I went to an alternative supplier. Auto Europe only offered a partial refund 'as goodwill' because I had asked the supplier for an option that Auto Europe stated was not available.

I clearly am renting a one way

I clearly am renting a one way. In fact my payment screen says the one-way fee needs to be verified. Yet the "reservation information" above says that pickup and drop off are at the same location, which is wrong. An earlier screen listed conflicting one way and round trip pick-up/drop-off locations on the same screen! So you website needs fixing. If I can't get confirmation it is indeed for a one way, I will need to cancel.

Pathetic Customer Service or Scammers? ..after farcical experience. Avoid.

I reserved a car through Auto Europe at Nice Airport for end of June ( 6 weeks ago). Their partner was SicilyByCar and the pickup was to be "Under the Pharmacy Cross" at Terminal 2 for 10.00. I waited at this location until 10.25 for shuttle bus and then rang AutoEurope to find out what was delay. I was put on hold and after 10 minutes was told bus would collect me in 10 minutes. After waiting a further 25 minutes I again rang AutoEurope and was put on hold and then transferred to SicilyByCar office to be told by a very stressed lady that the pick up location was at the "Car Hire Location " on different level and that I should wait there. These instructions were so vague, that I had to call again to find out exactly where this pick up point was. I eventually, after much vigilance spotted their shuttle bus and met another couple who had just been through same ordeal. We travelled 10 minutes on the bus to the rental location. This was a prefab building in a yard. There was a queue of customers trying to get signed up with one lady trying to achieve this. Her colleague was wandering in and out of the office laughing at the mayhem. We were all in this small office prefab where I could see and hear all customers exchanges and the fact that the deposit was 2000euro ( 1200 advertised) was being pointed out to a customer 5 people ahead of me. It was now 12.45 and I had lost all this time and had absolutely no confidence in the rental company. I duly reserved a car with Enterprise and left as I wasn't prepared to take any more chances. Enterprise was perfect and better price BTW. I contacted AutoEurope immediately by email to tell them what had happened. A week later they offered me a 50% refund as a gesture of goodwill! ( Apparently I should have seen into the future and cancelled 24hrs before pickup). I told them that I wanted this escalated and nothing short of a full refund was acceptable. Over 6 weeks later despite numerous emails, still no refund. Auto replies to emails , telling me that it's being investigated. Case :4471764
