Worst experience ever!
We booked our rental car to pick up from Olbia airport with Auto Europe, the vendor was Gold Car. They did not accept my driver's license even though it was valid. They told me that they need a European/international driving license. However, this information was not shared with us when we did the booking on the website.
If you are coming outside of Europe, do not rent a car from them. The call center did not pick up the phone for 10-15 minutes straight. We called them multiple times until we got hold of them. Even though I could not get the rental car, they did not refund me either. They said they cannot refund me as this was stated somewhere unreadable on the voucher. They did not even try to help out or cancel the booking either; they said you can only do it 48 hours before. I did not know this was going to happen, so what do you expect? Scammers.
We went on and rented out another car easily with no hustle at the airport by another provider. So STAY AWAY!!!

Unresponsive and dismissive of our…
Unresponsive and dismissive of our accident. No refund was issued, and they refused to investigate the faulty claim report by Hertz. Not recommending.
Last month, my friend and I booked a car through Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH. The car was picked up at the Hertz dealership at the Zurich Airport. After one day of usage, the car signaled problems with the engine, due to which, we had to stop the car immediately on the side of the road and had it towed. Despite our requests, Hertz was not able to provide us with a replacement as the accident happened on Saturday, and the following day all of their offices would be closed. We were promised a full refund for the car and the situational public transport fees, but had to file the claim through Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH. We provided screenshots, pictures, and other substantial accident documentation to Auto Europe. However, we were told that Hertz claimed that a car replacement was not requested, thus a refund was not possible. This was certainly not true and could be proved by the documentation we provided to Auto Europe.
It's been now more than a month, and Auto Europe refuses to respond to us and escalate the investigation with Hertz. Clearly, Auto Europe does not value its customers enough to investigate the faulty claims made by Hertz. Our claim was handled by Luisa at Auto Europe.

Autoeurope works very well
Autoeurope works very well. Unfortunately it works also with unreputable companies like the Romanian rental company Klass Wagen who will try to charge you for damages that you did not do.

Autoeurope accepted Budget's deceit!
I had a Budget car rented through Autoeurope in Frankfurt am Main in Nov-Dec 2024. Upon returning the car, I was informed that bill had increased by about 200 €! After very long investigations and email sendings, the outcome was that part of the sum was due to missing fuel and additional insurances. Fortunately, I had photos of the fuel meter. When I got the car the fuel tank was half full. So, I returned the car with some gas more in the tank than there was upon getting the car. Initially, the renter informed that my photos are invalid! When protesting, they agreed that had made a "mistake", and I get some money back. But I never got back money from the insurances that I HAD NOT agreed to take. My acceptance for the insurances was a plain deceit. I'm very disappointed with Autoeurope, as it turned out to be at the scammer's side!
Feb 14, 2025 After finally finding Budget's email address, I got their answer I've today responded to. Now, I wait what they tell me. If I'm not satisfied with the answer I turn once more to AutoEurope.
Feb 25, 2025 I didn't get any response from Budget even though I was asked for information which I sent. Now, I contacted again AutoEurope through the link above. I just got confirmation that my message was received. It is a question of the EXTRA insurance which I didn't ask or approve. I can confirm that I signed the contract. However, no word was said to me about getting an extra insurance! It is just a deceit!
March 1, 2025 I got the same answer as previously from AutoEurope: They deny their responsibility to the fraud. Therefore, I repeat here the facts: 1. I was never aware that extra insurances by Budget were added to the rental. 2. I was never shown or told that the rental sum was increased. The total expenses were not shown to me. Therefore, it didn’t occur to me that the rental price was increased by about 200 € (initially also containing the fraud with missing gasoline in the tank). 3. I was never shown the terms of the extra insurances. Therefore, I am badly disappointed to both Budget Germany and AutoEurope EU.
ONE MORE thing, the increase in the rent was added upon the RETURN of the car. An employee just mentioned of it to me when I was in a hurry for the plane. Perhaps I thought it was a mistake. So, I couldn't be aware of it and I didn't accept it at the time the rental began.

Review: Scam - Stay away from this company!
Review:
Auto Europe Germany scammed me out of €84 by adding an insurance policy I never requested. When I picked up the car, they told me the deposit was only for the gasoline. However, they later refunded only part of my deposit, keeping €84 for the unauthorized insurance. I asked for clarification, but they failed to provide any proof or explanation. Their practices are misleading and dishonest. Stay away from this company!

safe and easy
Don't hope to get help from this company if something goes wrong with your booking
I had booked a convertible but when I arrived at the airport I was told that there was no convertible available.
When I contacted autoeurope, they told me that they couldn't help and that I could to file a complaint only after the end of the booking.
Back home I filed a complaint and received a compensation of 40 EUR on a 900 EUR booking for a car I did not receive.
During the whole process, autoeurope did not answer my emails.

Additional charges when booking
I booked a rental car in Munich from AutoEurope (Thrifty/Hertz) on July 1st, 2024 via billiger-mietwagen.de. The voucher included, among other things, the rental costs, theft protection, an airport fee and the applicable taxes. However, when returning the car only a small part of my deposit with Hertz was paid back and a part of it was retained. After complaining to Hertz, they explained to me that the voucher contains services worth a total of €472.93 and my prepaid voucher is only worth €334.21 and that I therefore have to pay the difference of €138.72.
I do not agree with this explanation. I have already paid for all of the services at AutoEurope with my voucher. When booking with AutoEurope, it was never mentioned that I would have to pay an additional €138.72 to Hertz for the services already included in my reservation.
Since I signed the rental agreement with Auto Europe, I would like them to clarify the matter and refund me the €138.72 I overpaid. I already wrote an email on September 16th and again on September 25th, but I have not received a response yet!!
I trusted the reliability of Hertz/Thrifty and AutoEurope when I made my reservation and I have never had a problem like this before, this situation is really frustrating!!!

Didnt get a car on vacation due to Autoeurope mistake
We didn't get a car in Avis shop in Italy during vacation, mistake was on Autoeurope side, as they didn't communicate new rental contract start date as it had been agreed with their service staff. So we were without car, had a lot of financial and holiday time damage. Even as they did the mistake, they insisted on charging a cancellation fee. But in fact we didn't cancel, we just didn't get a car provided by AVIS, as Autoeurope didn't sent contract change dates to them.
Useful, but be cautious.
Although the website is a bit difficult to use, it does work, and you can easily and quickly rent a car.
However, based on the following, I would probably pay a little extra in the future and deal directly with well-established rental companies.
You should be aware that Autoeurope is a broker and not a car rental company. Be cautious, as you might end up with less reliable companies. I personally ended up in the hands of AutoOne/Surprice in Florence, which caused quite a few challenges (see my review there). I would recommend canceling the reservation if you are referred to an unknown and not well-reputed company.
Their customer service is quite good, and they did what they could to get my deposit back from AutoOne. It succeeded after six weeks (AutoOne are experts at delaying deposit refunds).
Please note that as a Danish customer, you will be calling a German landline, which in many mobile plans incurs a fee. It cost me around 300 DKK.
This was also due to the fact that the opening hours listed on the website were not correct. The staff apparently weren't aware of the changes either, as they also forwarded me to a closed office.
Although the website is in Danish and the voicemail is in Danish, the staff speak English. This posed a bit of a challenge for me since it’s not "everyday English" that's needed to explain relatively complicated issues.

Everything worked very well.
Everything worked very well.
Employees where nice and efficient. Especially the agent at Klaas Wagen who welcomed us when we returened the car, Mr. Nieto, was great.
We would use Klaas Wagen and Autieurope again.
Overall very good experience
Overall very good experience. I would appreciate a bit more transparency on the real cost so that providers can be assessed and compared fairly (latest nasty surprise: significantly more expensive cross border fees from one provider, buried in the fine prints)
Terrible
Terrible. I thought I'd booked Excess insurance as i always do with other car rental booking sites but unfortunately not the case. Very expensive insurance with Goldcar. The car they gave me had 95000 km!!!!! and scratched and dented to hell. Never again with Auto Europe.

twice paid full insurance
When reserving a vehicle in AutoEurop, I bought full coverage. However, it was not explained anywhere that I do not need to buy full coverage from RentaSmart24 when picking up the vehicle, so they charged me again when picking up the vehicle at Bergamo airport. Since this is my first and last experience with this car rental company, I want to share it with others.

Autoeurope are the worst…
Edited to answer Autoeurope: The car hire company were willing to hold the car until the following day but needed an Autoeurope agent to contact them to confirm the same. Autoeurope refused to do this.
Autoeurope are one of the worst companies I have dealt with. We missed our connecting flight and contacted Autoeurope to let them know we would be collecting the car from the car company the next day. They refused to allow this to happen, made us make a new booking charged us 70 euro fine and our new car was nothing alike with a worse company well away from the airport. We will never use them again.

AutoEurope happily collaborates with fraudulent suppliers
I booked a car for five days to be picked up by the airport in Florence. It turned out that AutoEurope's supplier in this case was a company called "Surprice" (yes, I know, sounds foreboding... take a look at this company at Trustpilot, if you're curious about them - it's an experience). There was a 900 euros deposit reservation stipulated on the contract, which of course was no problem - that was part of the agreement that we ordered.
However, it turned out that Surprice did not block/reserve this amount on my card as they should, but actually withdrew it. It has now been a month since we delivered the car back, completely spotless as confirmed by a member of staff there (who then declared the contract closed), but Surprice never returned the 900 euros. I have contacted AutoEurope customer service several times by phone, have on all occasions spoken to a polite person with no authority to do anything, and have seen absolutely ZERO effective action from AutoEurope's side. When contacted by e-mail, AutoEurope returns standard messages with a lot of generic talk about how much they care about their customers. The only concrete thing they write is to talk about my "dispute" with their supplier, and that they will send "weekly" e-mails to the supplier. Yes, you read that right :-) - in a situation where one of their suppliers unlawfully charges large amounts to the credit cards of customers who booked via AutoEurope, their only initiative is to write "weekly" e-mails to a supplier that simply ignores them. I have this in writing. It seems that to AutoEurope management, 900 euros is a detail, but for me it is a lot of money. And now AutoEurope themselves simply stopped replying to my e-mails, despite all written in a formal, proper tone.
I booked my rental car via the AutoEurope website, and they gave my credit card information to the supplier. And still AE acts as if the whole thing has nothing to do with them (in rampant violation of GDPR regulation). Apparently, AutoEurope's only interest is in extracting money from you while not taking any responsibility for anything. What a business model... If you want to preserve your good mood and happiness, avoid dealing with AutoEurope. Next step from here is to go to the police - where I live, taking people's money unlawfully is called theft.

I am Canadian
I am Canadian. I rented a car from AutoEurope and was directed to their european site. I booked the car out of Los Angeles for a vacation with Dollar Car Rental. When I arrived they would not honour the contract. I had to purchase a contract directly. I have tried to contact AutoEurope's phone number but to no avail. I have filled out an online claim form but have not heard back. I have checked my status only to be told to phone the number that I can not get through to. I have contacted there 1-888 number for their North American operations, been given a ticket number, and still no feedback. They stole my money and did not provide any service. I will avoid this company at all costs and suggest all others avoid them too.

Cannot be trusted
Update: After Trustpilot evaluation, Auto Europe reacted quickly and has refunded the difference.
It is strange that it is necessary with Trustpilot to get a response. Should have been done immediately
Rented a car in Dubai through Auto Europe Deutschland, but got a smaller car than booked, when we arrived. Which was a problem, because we were more people than could fit in the car the coming days.
I complained to Auto Europe Deutschland, who quickly made a case.... So price could be adjusted
But that is it, no response, nothing from Auro Europe since February.
They promise a lot, but nothing happens

Prices good - service does not exist
I recently decided to book a rental car through AutoEurope.de, attracted by their competitive pricing. Initially, the booking process seemed user-friendly and the rates were indeed appealing.
However, my positive experience quickly deteriorated due to a significant issue with their payment processing. My credit card was erroneously charged twice because of some technical problems on their website. This double charge was not only unexpected but also inconvenient, as it led to undue financial strain.
In an attempt to resolve this issue, I reached out to their customer service via email, twice. Unfortunately, my efforts to communicate were met with silence—no replies came my way, which was quite disappointing. Seeking further assistance, I resorted to using their online contact form, hoping this might prompt a response.
As of this moment, I have yet to receive any acknowledgment or resolution from AutoEurope.de's customer service team. This lack of communication is frustrating and forces me to consider more drastic measures, including potential legal action, to rectify this financial discrepancy.
While AutoEurope.de offers attractive rates and a straightforward booking process, their management of payment errors and the apparent disregard in customer service response greatly undermine the overall user experience. Prospective customers should be wary of these issues and possibly prepare for challenges in dealing with customer service.
