Good but beware!

I traveled to Madeira recently and used Auto Canhas for the second time. I rented a Seat Arona or similar car type months before my trip. This was to match the price and needs of our group. To my surprise, I was offered a Seat Ibiza upon my arrival at the place. The staff didn't even offer me a refund for the car, which was two categories lower. It was after my complaint that I was offered Skoda Scala, which was still a much smaller car than the originally booked Seat Arona. Once again, there was no offer to refund or a price change that would correspond to a lower car category or size. Since we were in a hurry, I did not want to deal with that issue anymore and accepted the car. The car itself was fine, no problems during the whole week. I just felt a bit ripped off by the company, as I believe I paid for a different car category and size than what I actually received.

Good deal, communication complicated

We often use Auto canhas- really ok- Iast time I could not find the car keys for 2 days. I knew they must be in, or around the house (private property) a second key costs 400.- the communication was not easy, very hard to get someoneone on the phone. Sometimes no response for hours.
My colleague speaks portugese, tried to communicate. as I found the original key, after 2 days, Autocanhas agreed to pay back the 400.-
Finally after 2 month I got the money back 👌🏼😌it was a long and exhausting Procedere.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CONPANY

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CONPANY

Please, before renting a car, carefully read the reviews. We, unfortunately, didn’t do so.

To sum up on what happened- we paid for a car problem we possibly couldn’t cause. It happened only after a day of using the car, mostly just on the highway (it was a burned clutch). I understand that by using a car by various people some parts can get damaged more quickly but honestly by giving us a car with a fault that they themselves said was common here, they PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK. We couldn’t move from the middle of a really steep hill and the car started to smell terribly bad. They told us to come back to the office but as I said, that would be crazily risky! The man on the phone interestingly knew straight away what precisely the problem is even though he didn’t see the car or that we didn’t specify the problem properly.

After some time they sent a mechanic to have a look at it, even though he was really kind and understanding to us, I believe he knew this is a common procedure of that renting company.. We were really stressed and sad to spend our last day on Madeira with this problem and the man in the office wasn’t kind or understanding at all. He provoked my boyfriend to show his driving skills on another extremely steep hill to prove he caused the problem. It was really uncomfortable situation that wouldn’t (and didn’t) prove anything. Also, (as I see another person here has the same experience!) we had the highest insurance covering but it didn't cover this problem 🤔

Eventually we paid 1/2 of the price which would sound fair if we in any part contributed to this malfunction 😀 We did get another car for the rest of the day but the unpleasant feeling we got from the treatment here will stick to me for a reeaally long time! Please, be really careful and don’t be fooled by low prices or not needing a credit card to rent a car here. You may end up paying even more at the end…

good experience

Our Airbnb host recommended this car rental company to us. We received exactly the car we booked and it was in good shape (esp. the brakes). We booked the additional insurance that covers tires, mirrors and windshield. And that was it. No other costs besides the price we were shown at the end. In Madeira, the deposit can be quite high, some wanted to block more than 3k on a credit card… The communication was good, they explained everything to us and then we were good to go. After drop off, they gave us a ride to the airport in that same car, so we didn't have to transfer our bags after returning the car. The pick up took perhaps 10 mins, drop off max. 5 mins.

Minus 0.5 stars: The oil lamp was on. They told us not to worry, though. And there was no windshield wiper fluid.

We received the car with 1/4 tank of gas and were supposed to return it at around the same level. Usually, it's always a full tank, so that was different, but not bad!

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!
They sell you on the fact you are getting the car with full insurance. it is not full insurance it doesn’t even come close. What they give you is third party insurance as that’s the absolute minimum. They say it’s full insurance as in everything’s covered under third party incidents. They purposely don’t mention the “ additional insurances “ you can opt in for that ONLY cover tires and windows. Even if getting all the insurances they provide they also fail the mention that the excess is up to £1000. So if god forbid anything does happen to the car you still have to pay the initial £1000 before insurance even cover anything. Now let’s talk about the employees, on pick up I genuinely thought I was getting kidnapped at first. The young guy with the dark hair has 0 customer service skills and talks to us as if it’s a burden that we rented their cars. Worst customer service interaction I’ve ever had. The old guy is okay however he was the one that did not mention any of the insurance options. The bearded dude and young blonde guy were the only nice people we interacted with. To summarise: AVOID THIS COMPANY

Try, I did and do not regret.

As Jxxx company, with over 58k review cheated me, I checked with whom I can rent. I learned about Autocanhasrentacar. Checked on Trustpilot - no one review yet. First time I wondered about Trustpilot, is it too expensive for companies or just happedned that nobody had a bad experience with Autocanhasrentacar ( I believe people write more about bad things than good ones) A little scared, I booked.
1. Booking online was ok
2. My fly was late few hrs, it was not a problem for them
3. I knew that the car will not at an airport, I called them after landing and they pick me up as was said during booking online
4. I paid insurance, but was not forced to do it
5. I didn't put money for "my fault" - other company wanted 1500 Euro, despite insured as well.
6. The car was given with 3/4 fuel - the only one thing I did not like, but I gave them back with the same amount, and there was not a problem.
7. They took me at once to the airport - hardly few minutes drive.
8. The car was ok to drive and clean.
9. Defenitely I will use them again if needed, and will say to my friends about them as well with no fear.
10. I used the car for over one week at the end of October 2023, proof of rent can be delivered to Trustpilot if necessery.
