I have got a big chunk of money to invest in a Funeral Bond for my mother and it is the most clunky, unintuitive process I have ever encountered. It's impossible to find the application form, so I called and we weaved through rabbitholes to find it. I asked if we could do it over the phone and he said no. Looking at the form it isn't for me to fill in, it's for a company or funeral provider. I called again and she was less helpful than the first person. I asked if I could go into a branch to do it and she said no, it has to be done online. I've had six goes at this. I'm giving up and going elsewhere. Your loss, and mine, Australian Unity.

Australian Unity is a bad health insurance provider. They increase fees by 13% for extras where I was on Prime Extras. The average was 4% for Australian Unity. I also wouldn't recommend them where they took forever to generate the transfer certificate which was 13 days where I couldn't claim through my other health fund. Please stay away from these guys.
When I signed up to Australian Unity I was told the first 6 weeks of cover was free. Turns out that wasn't the case. I was told that the 6 weeks didn't start until after I had been with you for 60 days (July 1st).
Last week I rang to ensure no money was coming out of my account on July 1st. I was told that the 6 week's free cover could start anywhere between 60 and 90 days. Something I was not told after the intital misinformation about free coverage. I shared my frustrations and asked to have my call escalated. The second person i spoke to apologised for the 2 lots of wrong information, and offered the following options:
1. 4 days of free cover, to hopefully give the system time to begin the 6 weeks free cover
2. $70 in Visa gift cards.
I chose the 4 days of free cover.
This evening, I got a notification that my account was overdrawn. I log in to see that my account is overdrawn by $300 because Australian Unity had deducted $363.96 from my account. Not happy.
My monthly premium is $417.99, so I'm not sure why; a, the any amount was taken out after being told I had 4 free days of cover applied to my account, and b, why the amount is $54.33 less than my monthly premium.
In the past 2 months since I joined Australian Unity, I've now been told 3 amounts of wrong information and had a claim for non PBS medication denied, despite having a letter from my pharmacy. I am beyond frustrated at the lack of correct information being provided, claims being denied and now money being taken out during a period, of what I was told was to be "free cover"
The constant lack of good customer service from the longest running health fund in Australia is concerning.
Very disappointed. They claim to give you $100.00 if you refer someone, what a SCAM! I referred someone and received nothing. Every time I ring they say it is being processed. 6 months is a long time to process a payment. They obviously have no intention of paying.
Please please if anyone is reading this review ! Do not buy it ! Even if they promise to cover the whole world and bring all 3 holy books stay away
Their customer service is in India and they have some disgusting people dealing with stressed people
Do not buy at all
I wish I could rate this company a ZERO.
I have struggled for 2 months to simply cancel the policy. They claim that they will respond in 5 days, but don't if you request cancellation.
3 weeks after I wrote to cancel the policy, they then decided I needed to complete and sign forms.
Allianz care accepted my written cancellation instructions and the bank details sent by email for the refund. But not Australian Unity - they repeatedly request copies of the airticket I sent with my original instruction to cancel the policy on 28/1/2025. They want forms completed and signed with a lot more data than was required to sell me the policy in a few minutes initially.
All I need them to do is cancel the policy and to cease charging me and sending me Final demands. Too much to ask it appears.
Impossible to cancel - must be against consumer laws
Terrible service. Extremely hard to close the account. They purpose they made it very difficult, worse than any provider I've experienced.
Australian Unity is not worth the money they charge. The cover is already expensive and they decided to increase the cover by an additional $13. The customer service provided is terrible. Everyone I have spoken to is extremely rude and the average wait was over 25mins.
I am frustrated with Australian Unity Insurance Service.
Whenever I log into their system it does not work. Certain function never work properly in their site. They have absolutely no concern in fixing them and helping the Customer access their internet system easily. Also there system is not user friendly. Their system is 20 year old system and does not cater to the modern one touch button world. It take long time to load. The Management should fire the IT contractor or the department who are absolutely not bothered to raise this issues with there IT TEAM or department. Always having issues. If you call them to solve issues you need to be on the line waiting for a long hours and they do not have any call back system. They are good for 70's and 80's. They have not improved their system since then. Too old method. Absolutely no motivation no proper customer care and do not have proper complaint handling. OLD SCHOOL BUSINESS SYSTEM.
Management should watch their staff that "work from home"
Staff sit on social media all day whilst clients are waiting for a call back.
I will never deal with Australian Unity Melbourne office again
Signed up and after 4 months they haven't bothered to follow up or contact me,ridiculous treatment to the elderly
The worst customer service ever received. The company should be embarrassed for providing appauling service to customers. The staff in Claims department don't seem to know their work, incompetent to understand my policy & always apologising for their "mistakes". The only problem is that their MISTAKES are never CORRECTED - they don't seem to LEARN from their "MISTAKES". Avoid Australian Unity at all costs otherwise you'll have to WASTE your time, money & energy every time you contact them. We, CUSTOMERS, deserve BETTER!
Stay away and choose someone else.
after paying a monthly fee of almost $250 for almost 4 years and not using any benefits, finally I needed to have one procedure. They refuse to pay for it even though I asked beforehand if they do cover that procedure and got confirmation.
I thought I would do something different and write a bad review. Looks like everyone else beat me to it. Seriously, how many people need to complain to make them listen? After all the years of bei g with them, I need to claim robotic surgery for prostate cancer and guess what? They don't cover it!
Other health insurers do, it is the safest and most effective surgery. I requested they reconsider and tey passed it onto their medical specialist area. They could not give a damn!
Be like me, find another insurer. These guys just don't care, their ratings on here tell the story.
I applied for a job with this company &, after 4 days of UNPAID training, I was offered a job as a Domestic assistant.
Then I received an email requesting medical information.
They wanted me to provide the names of every medical practitioner I had seen over the last 5 years.
They wanted the approximate dates of every illness or surgery I had over the last 5 years & they wanted the names of all medications I had taken over the last 5 years.
I refused to provide that information because it was invasive. I'd be happy to provide information for 1 or 2 years but not 5. It's none of their business.
I withdrew my application.
After 15 years of being a loyal customer, Australian unity decide to make life impossible to claim a hospital procedure!! After providing all information requested they want more and more information to find ways to not pay out claims!! They are sneaky and only after making profits!! They do not care for their customers and health!! Horrible company I will be happy not to give them one cent more!!

Bunch of useless and unprofessional people, useless and fraudulent system. Full of lie, full of time wasting.
They look cheap at the beginning and they act cheap at the end either.
