Easy ordering to exact ring size. Dispatched in USA within a day but took over 4 weeks to deliver in Australia without any updates . Tracking number said ‘not found’ via the US courier.. so I was getting worried but the opal ring arrived today.. nice packaging & presentation- lovely ring & fit so I’m happy with my purchase .

Amazing customer service. Staff was fast, response and even gave me a $25.00 store credit as this was my 4th time purchasing with the company. Super easy return policy abd the Opal is exactly the Opal described and shown on the website

Please please listen do not purchase anything from Australian opal direct! I don't know why this website was recommended to me by Google as a great place to purchase opals but it's not. I placed an order and realized within 1 hour that the gold was filled and I was looking for solid gold piece so I requested a cancellation No response from them for 2 weeks! Thankfully I purchased using PayPal so I escalated with them and finally I received an email from AOD and they said they would process the refund. They never did!!! If I didn't go through PayPal I would have lost my money please don't do it. This is a new review 2026!

I’ve always had an incredible experience with this company but this time they straight up robbed me. I ordered a ring in late November, I’ve emailed them so many times and no response. Spend your money elsewhere!!!! This place is a scam!!!

I ordered a ring from here in Scotland. From the initial order, until delivery, took around a week. I was kept updated throughout, from both AOD and FedEx. When my ring arrived, it didn't disappoint. It was exactly how it looked and how described on the website. The quality, design and craftsmanship are exceptional. The presentation box for me, just topped it off. All in all I have had a 5 star experience and highly recommended the company for anyone looking for a unique piece of opal jewellery.

Dealing with this company was a nightmare. Never never had such bad customer service with a luxury purchase like we are talking not just unhelpful but openly rude. First of all be warned there is nothing direct about this opal it’s not from Australia but from the US. Secondly their shipper is awful and you better hope you have no issues with shipping because they will make it clear it’s not their problem which is crazy given the premium prices. Prices are not awful and all but the quality is very average and I was sorry to give business to a company with such unethical practices deliberately misleading people to make them think they are based in Australia. This is ironic because I’ve bought some Aussie opal pieces from Aussie seller and they took their business and customer service seriously. Guess I should have read TrustPilot before buying.

This is my second time purchasing from Australian Opal Direct, and I went with the Men’s Fiery Opal Cufflinks in Sterling Silver for my husband. Gorgeous fire in every stone, the picture and video is of the exact item I received, what arrived was exactly what I saw online. Their complimentary Luxury packaging is always beautiful! The prices are insanely good, the company has been in business for 40 years and the Opals are directly from Australia. The cufflinks have wild flashes of cherry red, lime green, and cobalt blue, it’s mesmerizing. peace of mind with free insured shipping always a bonus. Their custom opal selection tool is next, level,I’m already planning a one,of,a,kind piece for Christmas.

Wish I had read the reviews before spending money on jewelry from this company. They are honestly the worst experience I’ve ever had buying a luxury good. Wouldn’t call what arrived a luxury good. Ridiculously low quality doublet with the rudest customer service I’ve ever come across I was left speechless by how rude they were when I reached out to resolve the issues and politely explained. I’ve had better customer service over $5 items than on this luxury purchase these people are unbelievable and do not care about repeat business seems to me like their model is to trick people get their money then tell people to go to hell when things inevitably are unsatisfactory. Also they’re from the USA not even from Australia. Nothing “direct” about these guys.

DO NOT purchase from this company. The prices are outrageously expensive for triplet opal jewelry. I've shopped around and it is easily two to three times more expensive plus the descriptions say black opal when they are actually cheap low quality triplet opals. So deceptive and dishonest. Plus you have to pay extra to pick a ring size? Stay away!

Buyer beware! My husband bought an openwork heart pendant with opal and as a mature woman there's no way that it can be worn. Of course they never give you dimensions but say photos have been enlarged to show more detail. This pendant is about the size of my fingernail and the bail is actually longer than pendant. He upgraded to their "higher grade" chain which is very flimsy with a circle click clasp. All this for only $900. When I called about return they had no record of any purchase in our name. So I'm stuck with a worthless piece of jewelry they refuse to take back and I would be embarrassed to "regift" to anyone I know.

I ordered a pair of opal earrings from this company because they seemed to be exactly what I've been looking for but when I received the earrings, they were of lower quality and poor color on the opals. Their website return policy page says that you need to get their approval in order to return items and provides the email address in order to contact them before returning any items. I've tried emailing them 4 different times and have never gotten a response about returning the earrings.

My fiancé bought me an opal engagement ring from AOD … the opal started flaking away shortly after the warranty expired. I wish I could share the photos I took with a macro lens of just how thin the slice of opal is, less than 1mm. My local jeweler said a was shocked to see a doublet that thin. I reached out to their customer service and they blamed me, although I have many other pieces of opal jewelry that have been in my care for years and aren’t flaking away, they said I must have mistreated it. However, they did offer to “in good faith” have me ship it back and evaluate for repair and let me know the “associated cost.” I’m not in a position to give them more than we already did. My partner spent almost 2 months of mortgage payments on the ring - it didn’t last 4 months. Don’t bother, please.

I expected the opal jewellery from Australia not Usa.
They are called Australian Opal Direct. They sould be renamed Australian Opal INDIRECT.

Their name is very, very misleading.

The Opal Ring and matching Opal bracelet was beautiful. The pictures and video on the website were exactly as described. I am a repeat customer and highly recommend Australian Opal Direct!!

Awful customer service. I had previously reviewed them highly, but that was years ago. I recently tried to make a purchase, everything processed, and I got a confirmation on my purchase. The next day I got an email that said they had put the wrong price on the item I ordered so they were cancelling the order. I asked for clarification and then crickets..... didn't even get an apology or offer to ship something different. Never heard from them again. Horrible experience. Avoid.

I received my inlaid 14k Gold pendant today. It's heavy, beautiful and matches my ring exactly. I love it and you get what you pay for I don't know what the other people purchased but what we bought was solid.

I received a custom made black opal pendant in March 2021 (posted from California not Australia) and by Christmas that year I had about 1/3rd left of what was, in effect, just a very thin coat of 'opal' over a resin base. I showed it to a gemologist in London who appraised it and estimated that if perfect the pendant would retail at about 1/5th of what I was charged. Apparently - accordingly to AOD - the pendant must have been dropped or hit hard. As it had been around my neck since the day it arrived, I can say that neither of those happened. To be fair the company has offered to replace it for a bargain price - i.e. the full retail price my gemologist thought mine was originally worth! I shall not be taking them up on this nor dealing with them ever again and I would advise everyone else not to either. Avoid at all costs.

Before ordering, I checked it could be resized and got a reply the same day. From ordering, resize adjustment, to delivery in UK took just over a week. Very impressive! I received order and delivery updates via email.
The ring itself is beautiful. You can tell it is genuine opal from the way the colour changes in different light. It also came with a certificate of authenticity. I've since received an email about how to care for the stones.
Overall I'd highly recommend this company.
I watch opal hunters on TV and it's amazing to think the opal has been mined from one of those locations!
