Although aware of Audio T, availability of specific goods meant that I’d previously dealt with Richer Sounds, Peter Tyson and Hi-Fi Corner. All of whom did a great job. But as I was to discover, Audio T go above and beyond. When it comes to customer service and tailoring the right deal.

What I wanted to do was trade in my KEF R3 Metas, a pair of REL subs and KEF Coda W’s, for some Fyne Audio F5S stand-mount speakers, Fyne Audio Cubit 5 active speakers, and the Acoustic Energy AE320 Mk2 floor-standers. This quite complex arrangement was easily sorted out by the excellent Alan at Audio T in Portsmouth. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that not only could I have my goods delivered to my home in person, but that Alan would also be able to pick up the part ex goods and handle the boxing/unboxing. All at no extra charge, which as I live on the Isle of Wight was a real boon!

Even when it proved impossible to supply the Cubits due to an exclusivity arrangment, my deal was still on and the loss simply meant that I would owe less. Audio T’s flexibility when it comes to part ex deals and the personal service is something that no other company I have dealt with can offer. In due course, Alan arrived at my door, set up and packed up while we had a great chat about music, and with a handshake headed back to the ferry terminal.

As for my new gear, the little Fyne Audio speakers needed taller stands to be in line with our ears, and a few days to sound their best, but after that when combined with our Sonos Mini Sub, we’re getting a very nice sound for TV use. The system also doubles as a pretty decent little hi-fi, for when we just want to check stuff out. The Acoustic Energy AE320 Mk2 present a very different sound to the KEF/ REL combo they replaced. At the time of writing this review I am just over 2 weeks in, and so the speakers are not yet burned in. But right out of the box they look elegant, and sound epic. If the KEF/Rel combo was a little more revealing (at least for now) then the AE’s are warmer and the scale is much greater. Before Alan suggested these speakers to me I had intended to buy some Dali Opticons. The AE’s were another £500 quid, but this turned out to be money well spent. Quality speakers for those of us who understand that quality comes at a price, but also that price has its limits. Paying a lot more for a better known name or hand-crafted cabinets is something I’m happy to leave to those who can afford the luxury. Because the sound is paramount and what I have is already superb and likely to improve still further when the AE’s are burned in. I should also report that the sound is coming from a Volumio Rivo streamer, into a Chord Qutest DAC and out to a Roksan Caspian 4G amplifier.

In summary, I can wholeheartedly recommend Audio T in Portsmouth, and Alan in particular, who was helpful, highly informative and a pleasure to deal with. Audio T’s willingness to be flexible with PX and their ability to arrange home delivery at no extra cost really makes a difference.

Can’t speak highly enough of all the staff at Audio T Cardiff. We dealt with Matt and he was superb from start until finish with the process of buying a full hi fi set up. He always had all the time in the world and didn’t rush any element of the process. We tested different equipment at the store and then once we’d narrowed it down to a few options he came to the house to test the acoustics of the room it would be played in. Full set up then once we’d decided what we wanted. Absolutely brilliant customer service and knowledge to go with it. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services. Easiest 5 stars I’ve given to any shopping experience. Thanks guys.

Matt was extremely knowledgeable in helping me upgrade my turntable cartridge and power supply. Fitted cartridge professionally and performed a healthcheck on the turntable. Really pleased with the upgrade, vinyl sounds even better. Thanks Matt and Kerrin in the Cardiff store.

The 6 June event exceeded my expectations. Jon demonstrated how relatively low cost changes can improve your system; as well as a small amount of time giving an insight into the performance of a high end system. It was a pleasure seeing a master at work; well done!
