Excellent Car Rental Experience in São Miguel!

We recently visited São Miguel and rented a car through Atlantic Secrets and the experience couldn’t have been better. From the start, communication was clear, friendly, and professional. The booking process was smooth and straightforward, and the staff made everything easy from pickup to drop-off.

The car was in great condition—clean, comfortable, and perfect for exploring the island’s winding roads and stunning viewpoints. We appreciated the flexibility of the rental, as well as the helpful local tips they offered about driving in the Azores.

Having a car gave us the freedom to visit beautiful places like Sete Cidades, Furnas, Lagoa do Fogo, and many hidden gems off the beaten path. It truly made our trip more memorable.

Highly recommend Atlantic secrets to anyone visiting São Miguel. Reliable service, fair pricing, and a team that genuinely cares about their customers. Would absolutely rent from them again!

We rented a car with a group of 5 friends. Did a lot of research on where we best rent a car on sao miguel. Everything had bad reviews so it was kind of a gamble and we just picked Atlantic. That turned out to be the right choice. Got picked up at the airport within 5min and they gave us our car. The car was very clean and looked like the pictures.
With the return everything went smooth dropped of the car then looked for damages found non and dropped us of at the airport all within 20min.
I would advice you to take the full insurance it just makes your life way easier and les stresfull in the small streets round soa miguel.

I would avoid Atlantic Secrets, they rent cars at an aggressively low rate for a reason. The car we rented through them was brought back in perfect condition. The employee processing the return looked under the car and found a scrape and proceeded to charge us 200 euros, which we were forced to agree to otherwise they would take our entire security deposit ($1200). They are not located at the airport, but do offer a ride there…which they leverage to force you to pay these fake damage charges. They basically know you need to get to airport ASAP and use that to their advantage.

When we challenged them, they told us to call police knowing we needed to get to airport in next hour lol. They were extremely unprofessional and rude. At some point, despite clearly speaking English began to act as if they didn’t and only spoke Portuguese from then on. Strictly speaking Portuguese to each other, which they didn’t know we understood.

When we picked up the rental, not once was under the car mentioned as fair game for damage…otherwise I would’ve gotten on my back and slid under car to check. Anyways, when you drive around the island you quickly learn that every car driving the roads of Azores has existing damage on the bottom side of the car due to potholes and other poor roads.

TLDR: Low rental prices for a reason, fictitious damage claims we will fight with credit card company. Offsite from airport, offer rides but use that against you when challenging damage. Rude and speak English only when convenient to them. Amazing what a company will do to extort 200 euro and take advantage of tourists.

The best car hire experience. My husband and I have rented cars around the world but Atlantic secrets is by far the best! The car was provided so immaculately I did not feel I needed to wipe the interior of the car, as I always do. Would only use this company if/when returning to Sao Miguel.
