Warning - do not engage with Athleisure Basics

I'm writing this review to warn other fashion startups and independent designers to avoid working with this manufacturer. They are unprofessional, completely unresponsive, and fraudulent.

On April 3, we placed a sample order for a pair of trousers and paid via Wise. Prior to sending the payment, communication was active, though the responses felt formulaic and AI generated. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, assuming there was a language barrier since they claim to be based in Portugal. However, as soon as the payment cleared, their behavior shifted completely.

No Progress: We were promised a standard 2–4 week sampling lead time. Absolutely zero progress was made on our project.

Ghosting & Lack of Communication: All follow-ups had to be initiated by us. Exactly one month after payment was received, the vendor went completely AWOL and stopped responding to all emails and messages.

Refusal to Resolve: We attempted to resolve this directly by sending official requests for a project cancellation and a full refund. They have completely ignored all communications.

Athleisure Basics takes advantage of emerging, independent brands that are trying to scale. It is too bad I didn't come across the previous reviewers comments before working with them, and I hope by writing another honest review sharing my experience with them others will think twice before engaging with this fake company.
Do not trust them with your money, your designs, or your time.

Having engaged in exhaustive…

Having engaged in exhaustive communication and briefings with "Maria". as soon as the quote was paid, and proof of payment sent, all communication went silent! emails and calls were not answered, except for a very badly worded email stating, basically that they would "get to it eventually".
To this day I am still waiting for my products, and

I made the big mistake of trusting these people with my project. Something I have worked on long, hard and diligently. This is an "organisation" that makes its money by hustling. By trusting these people to do anything other than take your money and run is a big mistake. This "organisation" is a scam!

Unreliable production, No deliverables, and poor communication

I would strongly advise anyone considering working with Athleisure Basics Manufacturing to proceed with extreme caution.

My experience has been deeply frustrating and has had a direct negative impact on my brand’s timeline and financial planning.

After making upfront payments for pattern development and sampling, the project quickly became characterized by:
• Repeated delays without clear accountability
• Lack of transparency regarding actual production progress
• No delivery of sample, prototype, or any tangible output
• No verifiable proof that production had meaningfully progressed

Communication gradually became inconsistent and eventually stopped entirely for multiple weeks, despite several follow-ups and attempts to resolve the situation professionally.

What is most concerning is not just the delay itself, but the absence of concrete deliverables and documentation after payment was made. As a client, this creates a serious breakdown of trust and raises significant concerns about reliability and operational structure.

While explanations were given regarding third-party dependencies, managing suppliers and timelines is a fundamental responsibility of any manufacturer — and should never fall on the client.

While the project was ultimately completed, we recognize that the delays and communication issues negatively affected your experience. We take that feedback seriously and are continuing to improve our internal coordination and client communication.
