Review of Tagly.to: High Rejection Rates, Hidden Financial Penalties, and Inconsistent System Feedback
I am sharing my experience as a contributor on tagly.to to provide an objective warning to other microtask freelancers regarding the platform's payment architecture, system inconsistencies, and moderation practices.
1. Payment Structure and Rejection Frequency
Base Rates: The starting pay is $0.005 per task for the first 1,000 tasks, which increments to $0.006 per task after reaching that milestone.
Rejection Rates: Over the course of nearly 9,000 completed tasks, approximately 50% of the submissions were flagged or rejected by moderators. Flagged tasks are completely unpaid.
Data Retention: The platform's "reports" page does not provide historical transparency. It restricts views to only a few days of past reported tasks, and entries are completely missing timestamps.
2. Implementation of Financial Penalties
The platform implements an unannounced deduction structure that actively reduces your existing earnings balance for rejected work. In a recent review of my viewable history, 9 tasks incurred structural penalties that exceeded the value of the tasks themselves:
Two tasks received a $0.03 deduction each.
Five tasks received a $0.06 deduction each.
Two tasks received a $0.025 deduction each.
The Math:
Forfeiting these 9 tasks cost a potential earning of $0.054, but the system additionally docked $0.410 from my total balance as a penalty.
3. Contradictory Logic and Algorithmic "Flip-Flopping"
The core validation mechanics are highly inconsistent, specifically regarding edge-case images (such as unidentifiable black blocks or text boundaries):
Catch-22 Validation:
Submitting an annotation with a black block resulted in an immediate rejection stating the item should be left unmarked.
Submitting the exact same task type with the block unmarked resulted in a rejection stating it should be annotated.
Unviable Appeals:
When these contradictory tasks were formally appealed, every single appeal was rejected. The platform effectively penalizes the worker regardless of which direction they choose.
Removal of Recourse:
Following multiple appeals on clear system errors, the "appeal report" option was permanently removed from the user interface dropdown, leaving "view annotation" as the only remaining selection.
4. Support and Quality Feedback Quality
Chat Support:
When I escalated the contradictory system requirements via live chat, support staff declined to clarify the operational standard, stating that results are based on "majority" agreement and telling me to look at the instructions, which did not address the visual bug.
Condescending Communication:
Feedback received during a trial moderation period moved away from professional standards. Evaluators used explicitly insulting phrases such as "these are simple tasks, why are these so hard for you?" and "Do you find that common tasks are often a struggle for you?"
Summary Conclusion
Tagly.to presents structural risks to remote taskers. Between the 50% baseline rejection rate, financial penalties that actively drain an account balance, a flip-flopping algorithmic validation structure, and the arbitrary removal of the appeal feature, it is highly likely that contributors will lose balance value rather than earn income.
