The information is displayed on the first page where you completed your purchase:
"Orders from US & Canada
United States and Canadian authorities may impose import duties and taxes on all orders arriving from the European Union. Our shipping Incoterm® is DAP (Delivered at Place), which do NOT include customs clearance local taxes or import duties."
When goods are imported into the United States, U.S. Customs requires that import duties (tariffs) be paid. These duties were introduced by the U.S. government during the Trump administration under trade laws such as Section 301 and Section 232, and they are still in effect today.
Because of these rules:
The duties are not set or kept by us as the seller
They are charged by the U.S. government at the time of import
By law, the importer (the U.S. customer) is responsible for paying them
The carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) simply collects the duty on behalf of U.S. Customs
We are required to declare the correct value and product category, and we cannot legally mark the shipment as a gift or lower the value to avoid duties.
We understand this is frustrating, but these charges are government-mandated import taxes, not additional fees from our company.

Lack of transparency re: exorbitant tariffs / fees
Purchased the chopper directly from Alligator of Sweden (via this website) as I'm trying to limit my spending at Amazon, Target, etc. The item cost me $129 and I was happy to spend the money on a highly rated item, instead of buying a $30 version on amazon, etc. However, at time of purchase, I was not warned / told / etc that I'd be charged $64 in tariffs when FedEx delivers. There was NO transparency. I regret my purchase and will not purchase another Alligator item due to lack of transparency. Had I known about the $64 in fees IN ADVANCE, I still may have chosen to order directly, but this lack of transparency has soured me. FWIW, last week, I also received parcels directly from two different German companies--neither parcel incurred tariff fees upon delivery--it's entirely possible, they included the fees in my overall cost, but I was aware of my total before finalizing the transaction and I was OK with my transaction totals. I'm absolutely disgusted by this entire transaction with Alligator of Sweden and will not purchase another item from them.

The import duties you were charged are imposed by U.S. authorities on products imported from the European Union. These tariffs were introduced during the Trump administration and are entirely outside of our control. Neither we nor FedEx receive these fees—they are collected directly by U.S. Customs.
That said, we do make an effort to be transparent about this. Information regarding import duties and taxes when purchasing from the EU is clearly stated on the first page of our website before an order is placed. However, we understand that this information can still be easy to miss, and your feedback highlights how important it is for us to keep improving clarity around this topic.
Different EU companies may handle duties differently—some include estimated fees in advance, while others ship Delivered at Place (DAP), where duties are collected upon delivery. We currently ship directly from Sweden to offer our customers original products and direct support, but this does mean local import charges may apply depending on destination and customs assessment.
We truly regret that this experience has overshadowed the product itself, and we appreciate your honest feedback. If you would like to reach out to us directly, we would be happy to discuss your order further and see if there is anything we can do to assist.

The garlic mincer is better than any…
The garlic mincer is better than any other. It’s easy to use, makes perfect minced garlic easy, and is easy to clean and put away. And that is important. I had the older, smaller style without the box on top and loved that too because of its simplicity. Gave that one to my best friend and she says it better than anything she has tried. It’s well made. I purchased 2 so I can give one to my sister. I was surprised when they were delivered so quickly AND with a free gift of a vegetable peeler! (Haven’t tried that yet) For me, it’s just perfect.

Beware of Tariffs
1) The price of 12.90 for several small feet and bumpers is exorbitant, especially since they should not need replacing every 10 or 20 usages. This is the second time I have had to replace them.
2) You neglected to warn of the ridiculous Trump Tax of 6.45 which would be needed to pay FedEx.

Regarding the price of the feet and bumpers, the cost is primarily due to shipping by air from Sweden. As these are small-volume spare parts shipped internationally, air freight is the most reliable option, but it does unfortunately result in higher shipping-related costs.
Concerning the import duties, we do inform customers on the first page of our website that local taxes and duties may apply. The so-called “Trump duties” and any associated fees charged by FedEx are imposed by U.S. authorities and carriers and are outside of our control.
