BEWARE!!!
BEWARE!!!
I have rented literally hundreds of cars over the past 40+ years and Alamo Rental Car at London Heathrow is the worst experience I have ever had...long waits, disorganized system, scammy or incompetent rental staff, lip service given to complaints, and more. I am now engaged in a back and forth and they are still lying...despite clear evidence...about the unnecessary charges they are trying to charge me. Mind boggling how bad they are.
After hiring the car they tried to wrongly charge for damage and admin fees
After hiring the car they tried to charge us for damage to a tyre where no damage was there when i returned it. I did have to fight to get my money back. Then they charged an admin fee for a toll charge that had been paid and would not refund the charge. Will not use again !
Everything as it should be
Everything as it should be. It was my first time renting a car and was nervous about hidden charges or been left stranded.
I need not have worried. The girl i delt with in Bristol, i think her name was Einam was so helpful and nice it made my wholr trip much nicer. So a big thank you to that fine lady and i would use Alamo again with out a doubt.
Great service
I hired a car earlier this month from Alamo at Bergerac Airport- having read the reviews l was obvs concerned.
However we had a great experience from start to finish :-
Hybrid Automatic Toyota
Very clean
Great staff
Drop off ok , however had to explain to member of staff that the low tyre pressure warning light was not a flat tyre 🙄 l had it checked in Bordeaux earlier 👍
Just photograph any marks not on collection paperwork and send these to office once you've collected car 👍
I would definitely use these guys again 👏👏
Friendly, efficient car hire
We collected our rental car from Cardiff Airport.
Patrick was courteous and friendly and explained the companies policies to us in a helpful manner.
On our return we dealt with Haz who again was extremely pleasant.
We were very pleased with our car and would recommend this company for its staffs professional and friendly service.
I did not receive the category I had chosen and was misled by the staff member, which ended up costing me £305.
I decided to chose Alamo UK even though it was one of the more expensive options when I was quoting, because I have had good experiences with Alamo US for the past 10 years.
So, for the first time, I decided to rent a car with Alamo UK, expecting to have the same experience.
I chose an electric model because my building provides free charging, but at the time of pick-up they said it was not available and gave me a petrol car instead. Even though I was unhappy, I had to take it as I was already late for my appointment. At pick-up, my wife pointed out scratches on the vehicle and a small cut on the tyre, and the staff member said it did not count as damage and did not need to be reported. Upon return, however, the staff member who received the car said I would have to pay £305 for that exact same cut on the tyre (Something makes me believe this was intentional).
I submitted a complaint and was told my case would be resolved within 3 to 5 business days, but the deadline has passed and nobody has contacted me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND – avoid Alamo/Enterprise UK.
Awful customer service/left stranded at the airport
We booked our hire car with Alamo back in March for our trip in September, flying into Palm Springs. When we arrived at the desk to collect it after travelling all the way from England, we were told we couldn’t have the car because it is apparently their policy that unless you are flying out on the same day you return the car, they won’t let you hire it.
This was never mentioned during booking, even though I entered all of our flight details at the time. Despite explaining we had no transport to get to our hotel and had made all our plans around this booking, the staff showed no care or flexibility. To make matters worse, they initially refused to refund us when we had no choice but to cancel – only after lengthy discussions did they eventually agree.
We were left stranded at the airport with no car and forced to pay a huge amount for a last-minute hire elsewhere. Our travel plans around Los Angeles had to be completely changed because of this.
I also spoke with the manager, who admitted that lots of people have experienced the same issue, yet this “policy” is not written anywhere on their website or shown during the booking process. In other words, customers are turning up after long journeys only to be turned away at the desk.
A really disappointing and stressful start to our trip – I would strongly advise avoiding Alamo until they are transparent about their policies and improve their customer service.
I am still awaiting a response from them in relation to compensation for the fact that we not only were left stranded but also paid hundreds of extra dollars to book another last minute car hire.
Poor charging practice and customer service
Second time Alamo have charged us after our return for things we didn’t have. Each time they have charged us for tolls even though we had a toll pass which covered toll charges and they also tried to apply a late return charge even though we were early. Getting hold of Alamo with an issue after your rental is impossible particularly if you booked a US rental from the UK. UK Alamo won’t talk to you and there’s never a response from the US leaving us to pursue through our credit card supplier.
Avoid this company
Booked car via Airport Rentals. At pick up was advised each damage incident would be charged out at £1000 (not declared at time of booking), but for £15 a day this could be reduced to £100. We were never advised that this change would also add an extra £12 per day to the account. No transparency in charges.
Worst Car Hire Company Globally
Never ever rent through Alamo
Dangerous and awful experience. Rental car stolen, went to local branch for replacement, but none of the right size. So forced me to drive 150 miles to obtain a correct replacement. That replacement then had 2 flat tyres that Alamo refused to assist with and left 5 of us stranded in the projects. A 4 year old and a US Navy Veteran included. Utterly disgraceful and now refusing to properly compensate.
Rented a car at Gatwick airport and it…
Rented a car at Gatwick airport and it was a smooth experience. Really nice staff. Highly recommended.
Stay away
Oh, what a joy renting with Enterprise 🙃
Picked up a car, noticed a little mark — staff told me ‘don’t worry, that’s not damage’. Fast-forward to drop-off: guess what? Suddenly it is damage, and I get the bill.
Even better: the same staff member promised me ‘I’ll fix it’. Spoiler alert… he didn’t. Multiple complaints to head office and even the BVRLA later, and still nothing.
But hey, at least Enterprise taught me a valuable life lesson: always photograph everything and never believe a word they say.
Cheaper than other companies? Sure… right up until they invent damage charges. If I could leave zero stars, I’d frame it and hang it on their office wall.
If I could give zero
(If I could give zero, I would)
I had one of the most stressful and frustrating rental experiences with Alamo (Enterprise Rent-A-Car UK Limited).
When I collected the car at Heathrow, the front bumper was already damaged. I pointed this out to the staff, and they confirmed it was recorded but thankfully, I also took photos and videos for my own records. Within hours of driving, I noticed the car pulled heavily to the left, suggesting issues with the tyres or alignment.
When I returned the car at Edinburgh Airport, I again took photos showing the car in the same condition. Despite this, I was immediately sent a shocking bill of £2,250 for the same bumper damage I had already reported at pickup.
The problems didn’t end there:
• They withheld my deposit throughout the dispute process.
• They repeatedly tried to charge my card before even completing their investigation.
• They added hidden “premium location fees” that were never disclosed. Honestly, it felt like I was paying their own branch rent, how is that even justified?
• Communication was terrible: endless transfers between teams, vague responses, and weeks of waiting for updates.
It took over a month of chasing and sending my photographic evidence to finally prove I was not responsible for the damage. The only reason I avoided paying thousands for something I didn’t cause is because I had taken my own photos and videos.
And after all this, their closing message to me was: “We hope you return to us for your future car rental needs.” which honestly felt like a joke after such a nightmare experience.
This entire process was deeply unfair and borderline fraudulent. Customers shouldn’t have to fight this hard just to avoid false charges and undisclosed fees.
⚠️ No, I do not recommend Alamo (Enterprise Rent-A-Car UK Limited). Don’t fall for their “affordable” prices. It may look cheap at first, but it quickly turns into the most expensive rental once they add hidden charges and false damage claims.
Misrepresentation. Seriously poor business practice. Avoid Alamo Bristol Airport
Booked online via Expedia: $1,310 NZD due at pick-up (all fees included). At Bristol Airport, Alamo suddenly demanded $3902.76! — nearly triple. With two small children and no other option, stranded at Bristol airport car rental, I was forced to pay. The desk team repeatedly assured me that £500 ($1000NZD) of this was a refundable deposit. The car was returned in perfect condition, but no refund has ever been made.
Since then I’ve heard only contradictory excuses: first that the deposit would be refunded, then that no deposit was taken, then that I’d “opted for extras” (I hadn’t). After chasing multiple times, I’ve simply been stonewalled.
Reading other reviews, this is clearly a pattern of poor business practice at Alamo Bristol. Avoid at all costs.
🛑AVOID🛑AVOID🛑AVOID🛑
Rented a car from Alamo Stansted Airport and was dealt with by Lara. On return fueled it right to the neck at the Airport garage. Physically could not get any more fuel into the tank. (I drive a fuel tanker for a job). When we got home we were notified of a fuel charge on the invoice of circa £20. Absolutely nothing was said on handover of the vehicle and both Alamo and I were happy. I contacted them the very next day and was advised the charge was a mistake and would be refunded. That was 4 wks ago and I have received £0. They have also stopped answering my emails to them. Absolute theiving charlatans. Steer well clear.
Greedy Company
Disguting company. Rented a car and after leaving noticed it was 1/3 of a tank. Refueled right away expecting to be reimbursed. Refueled to full before returning but the company is refusing to pay for the tank not being full. Tried every level of appeal and not a single manager answered from area, regional, to general manager. Use any other company but ALAMO/Enterprise.
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service whereby I was sent from digital desk to digital desk to get an answer to my question without anybody answering. They also charged me extra for picking up my car a couple of hours early even though they said this would be free of charge.
Really helpful customer service
The lady on the phone helped book a car for me when the online payment had issues. Was very helpful and suggested other ways of booking at the airport rental
Avoid at any cost, fraudulent cost and debt collector engaged and no response of what the additional charge relates to!
Rented a car from Alamo Switzerland Geneva Airport, paid for everything in full including fuel. Few weeks later I was sent an unsettled invoice without any specific explanation of the extra amount. I questioned this, later raising a ticket as well but no response. My ‘debt’ was passed onto a debt collector who is pressuring me to pay 2x what was owed, despite neither party providing me with any evidence on what this extra invoice relates to. Avoid at any cost!
scandalous and unfeeling.
We'd booked in advance and ordered a car with baby seat. Though we arrived on time we were told it was at least an hour wait by unsympathetic staff. No compensation, no apology just informed we had to wait with two girls under four in a car rental shop.
Genuinely scandalous and unfeeling.
