Adventure Kings break Consumer laws
Adventure Kings, also called 4WD Supastore, breaks state and federal consumer law by refusing to replace or refund money on a generator with a major fault, as it would not start. The set up and numerous start attempts were witnessed by 3 people, one a mechanic. The box claims it has “easy start motor” and on that claim alone a refund or replacement must be given as it must be an “easy start” according to the customer.
When I returned the faulty Kings generator to their new Port Macquarie store Warren, who was rude from the start, refused to obey Consumer Law, insisting he had to take it out the back to “assess it” and would call me later that day to let me know what he decided. He has no legal right to do that. When he saw me with my phone, he declared that it is against the law to record him without his permission, it's NOT.
The law allows the store to do a simple assessment of a returned item while the customer is preset just to check there is no sign of damage or misuse. I had it for only TWO days. Warren could've simply tried to start it in a few minutes outside. Taking it away from the customer for hours gives them a chance to repair it or replace it with another reconditioned unit which the law does not allow them to do.
There is nothing in their online sales or paperwork even suggesting they will not replace or refund on a product that doesn't work, or that they will take it away for hours to “assess”. That's because they know they can't legally do or say that. I told Warren if he took it away for hours I would also seek compensation for the food spoilage caused by their generator failing to work and power a camp fridge/freezer.
Even their own user's manual states under “troubleshooting” the cause may be a faulty ignition, which a mechanic confirmed was the likely problem. If you have already bought something from them, when you return it, record everything they say and do on your phone as the will likely breach your consumer rights do. Also, there “one day only” sales are bogus, with false original pricing – and they have a one-day sale every week!
By the way, Warren never called me that day, I had to call their Head office in Sydney who claimed they would get back to me, 3 days ago! I went into the store yesterday and still didn't get a replacement or repair as Warren yelled out while serving another customer “there was nothing wrong with it”. Probably a dodgy fix had been done on it, or it was swapped with another dubiously repaired generator.
The unlawful behaviour, shockingly bad consumer service, faulty product, and the loss caused by it are all compensable in court and I will recover my losses there if need be. I have lodged complaints with Fair Trading NSW and the ACCC federally. Avoid having your camping trip ruined by Kings, they have numerous competitors which obey the law and respect customers and their consumer rights.
Wasn't actually in stock but still took our money....
Be Warned.........if you really, really, really do need to purchase from this company or their affiliate 4WD Supacentre then here's a hint - pay with Paypal - that way when: it doesn't arrive, is the wrong item, is not fit for purpose, is broken, is missing parts, they won't offer refund, they won't send correct item at their cost.................put in a complaint to Paypal like we did and get your money back or better still - go elsewhere and avoid these two companies to start with. Also, like us, put in a complaint to the ACCC and State Consumer affairs - Adventure Kings in particular has, in the past, been before the ACCC to explain themselves and been told to remedy their business dealings so it is definitely worthwhile so others don't get ripped off.
Cautionary tale to fellow travelers
Back in July, my partner and I bought a Kings Half Size Roof Top Bag for our road trip around Australia (we're on the road until the end of the year). Honestly, we were hesitant to buy from Kings based on mixed reviews, but decided to give this one product a go because the price was reasonable and it wasn’t something as important like batteries or an inverter.
When we opened the box, we noticed a small hole in the bag. Since we were leaving the next day, we decided we would patched it up ourselves and eventually take into a Kings store. By the end of the week, the bag had four significant holes. Not ideal.
When we eventually came across a Kings store in Townsville, we stopped in to see what could be done. The staff member was friendly and willing to help—until we were asked for a receipt after unloading the entire rooftop bag. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the receipt with us. We hadn’t expected to need to carry every van-related receipt around Australia.
To make things worse, when we originally bought the bag in Adelaide (SA), the staff member didn’t take down any of our details. So even with a bank statement and the last 4 digits of our card, they couldn’t find our purchase in the system.
We then called Kings customer service and were told they’d look into it and call us back. That call never came.
We followed up with an email claim. After a week, they replied asking some basic questions. At that time, we were camping in the Daintree Rainforest with barely any reception. Two business days later—on a Saturday—they emailed saying the claim was closed due to no response. I immediately replied asking if it could be reopened. No response.
Eventually, I submitted a new claim and got a response from someone named Tash Stokes the next day—but instead of help, it was just a link asking me to review their customer service. Honestly, I’m blown away.
I’ve done everything I reasonably can to give Kings the opportunity to make things right after selling us a faulty product. Instead, I’ve been ignored, brushed off, and now asked to review the very customer service that failed us.
We may be talking about a $50 item—but $50 means more to us than it does to a multi-million dollar company. And this experience feels like a complete disregard of basic consumer rights.
Posting this so others know what to expect before buying from Kings. Sometimes, a "good price" ends up costing you way more in time, energy, and disappointment
Let Down By Their Choice of Freight Company
Unfortunately Adventure Kings use Team Global Express for delivery of online orders. Having Express in their name is a total joke as is their non-existent customer service. Kings need to have a look at the reviews on here & productreview.com before deciding on a freight company. Over 1400 reviews for TGE on productreview.com of which 96% are negative!! Even if most satisfied customers don't post reviews, that's still around 1350 customers annoyed enough to leave a negative review. If Kings cared about their customer experience they would look elsewhere for a courier. No point having decent gear for the price if it can't be delivered in a timely manner, as expected when paying for delivery. Your holiday will probably be over before your new gear arrives. I currently have two Kings orders which have been 'delayed', according to the tracking. One of them for a week, and Kings have just sent another item that was backordered, via the same joke of a freight company. No doubt it will be held up as well (assuming they eventually show up). Contacted Kings, they won't contact TGE unless it doesn't show up for another week. S*&T experience all round & I advise others to look elsewhere if they need their orders delivered.

Canberra supa centre
Ordered item on line as it indicated there was stock available, I was contacted immediately by staff member indicating that they didn’t have the item in stock and would not be available for several weeks The staff member apologised, was very polite, helpful and provided an out if I’d like that route. I am very impressed by this young (sounded young) behaviour and attitude The Canberra 4wd supa centre should be very proud of this staff member. Item arrived on date indicated, i am happily highly recommend the canberra 4wd supacentre with 5 stars
Flexible solar panel
As usual the gear from Kings arrived on time and is great value for money.
As above Courier Please are terrible.
Would have been better if you had a reliable, contactable courier service. Courier Please is your weak link.
