Not Recommended: Doesn't work & super expensive

This super expensive iron supplement should not be recommended for pregnant women in my opinion. I certainly don't recommend Active Iron Pregnancy. It did not work for me and the midwives at my maternity hospital told me they would not recommend Active Iron either. I'm now dealing with fatigue, headaches and weakness which could have been avoided if I had taken an iron supplement that actually worked.

After nearly 4 months taking Active Iron - diligently every morning on an empty stomach, followed by a grapefruit for vitamin C to aid absorption, while reassuring myself it was necessary and that I was being proactive by doing so - my latest blood test, heading into trimester 3, revealed that my iron levels had dropped considerably to 10.6 g/dH from within normal range. I should add that I'm not vegan or vegetarian, I've been regularly eating meat throughout my pregnancy in a conscious effort to get the right nutrients for myself and my baby.

Interestingly, when getting my bloods done, I mentioned to a midwife that I was taking Active Iron and she said she wouldn't actually recommend it as it had little impact on women's iron levels from what she had seen in the maternity hospital. Instead she recommended that I try Ferrograd-C which I discovered is literally a quarter of the price - I think I paid €5-6 compared with the €20 price tag on a box of Active Iron Pregnancy.

I really should have listened to the midwife at the time, but I continued with Active Iron because it was 'easy on the stomach' as I had learned from researching the product. I put my trust in the supplement, safely assuming something so expensive would surely have to work.

I've since switched over to Ferrograd-C which has been absolutely fine on my stomach and a lot easier on my pocket. I have a lot more faith in this product, as it's available through pharmacies and it isn't heavily marketed on social media through influencers.

If you're taking Active Iron products, my advice would be to get your iron levels checked regularly, to make sure the product is actually working for you and having an impact. Don't literally flush your hard earned money down the toilet, if all you're paying for is elaborate packaging, marketing and the influencers promoting it. I really feel stung by this experience physically and financially.

We often put too much trust in online companies that know how to cleverly bombard us with headlines that catch our attention and reassure us that we're making the right choice i.e. "clinically proven" / "award winning".

Hi Rose,
Thanks for leaving a review here after also reaching out to us on Instagram with your concerns.

We're very glad to hear that you found the iron product which works for you. As Active Iron is a supplement and not a medicine, some pregnant women may need a higher dosage of iron than that found in an Active Iron capsule, which should be determined on a case-by-case basis by your healthcare professional.

Once again, we would be delighted to send you the scientific papers and clinical studies on which Active Iron is formulated to assauge your reservations. By now you should have received the refund we iniated at your request in July.

Wishing you a safe delivery, and all the best in the future for you and your little one!

I live in the state of California and…

I live in the state of California and order my, Active Iron on Amazon. I like the fact that you can take these vitamins on an empty stomach and have no issues, that you have with any other vitamins. I feel the different when I take Active Iron. I have recommended them to people I know. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful product. Swift delivery. Very courteous service.

Purchased the product from H&B before but they never seem to have the Advanced Iron, only smaller dose one.
And I need the higher dose
Only product to date I have found that doesn’t give me stomach and digestive tract issues nor does one get the black tarry stools normally associated with pharmacy ferrous sulfate tablets.
One feels better after a few days on this, it is entirely gently and gentle enough to take on empty stomach. And most importantly, it works when needing to restore low ferritin levels.
Ordering online in and of itself very simple. Had a small query to customer service on small refund and I received a response within an hour of my note and an immediate action on what needed to be done.
This was on Thursday afternoon of last week and today morning (Monday following) the packet arrived at my house via post.
So I’d say - about as good as it gets.

The Best Iron Supplement Out There!

The Best Iron Supplement Out There!

I've been taking Active Iron for a number of years now and couldn't be without it. I am an active exerciser and follow a plant-based diet so have previously suffered with inadequate iron levels, feeling tired and fatigued constantly. I tried so many other brands of iron supplements but all had different side effects. As soon as I started taking Active Iron I knew it was a game changer. Just one capsule a day and zero side effects. Most importantly I feel more like myself and have the energy to do the things that I love.

Excellent product

Great product, the Active Iron Advanced is easy on the Gastrological system while increasing both Iron and Haemoglobin levels. A great service also, next day delivery and there's always discounts available from the company. I highly recommend the product. Two thumbs up.

Excellent product, highly recommend!

Has helped my iron levels stay as close to perfect as possible. I have tried many other iron supplements over the years and normally have to stop using the due to stomach problems or other negative symptoms. Active Iron has been a game changer for me, I have no negative symptoms and I feel like I have more energy when taking them. Would certainly recommend these to anyone looking for an excellent quality iron supplement.

Excellent product

I have been taking this supplement for about a year now and I can really feel the difference. My energy levels are better and the iron doesn’t upset my stomach at all. I really notice the difference if I can’t take it for a few days. Delivery is quick and the customer service is very friendly and helpful.

Wouldn't recommend

I was recommended Active Iron by a friend due to low levels of Iron in Pregnancy. I took it daily for six weeks and it made no difference to my low level whatsoever, proven by a repeat blood test.
Much more effective supplements available, and they are much cheaper also- Active Iron is very expensive.

Make it vegan

Fantastc iron supplement but they need to diversify so it’s not dependent on milk products. Make it vegan!

At the moment the science behind our product utilises a special whey protein, which is how we are able to target the DMT-1 site of natural iron absorption in the body. We hope in the future to have a vegan alternative.
