Poor build Quality Acer and worse customer service

My Acer Aspire laptop hinge failed at 5 months old, The hinges were so stiff that they simply break away from the casing when opening the laptop, Argos told me to contact Acer direct for collection and repair which I did. I then received an email from Acer telling me that I would have to pay £115 for the repair, I contacted them to discuss and was told that 'their warranty does not cover hinges or any other mechanical failure' (something that they could have made clear before I sent the laptop off), I then spoke to Citizens Advice who told me that their warranty is clearly not fit for purpose but also that I should deal with Argos who sold me the laptop and should not deal with Acer, also that I should initiate a claim under the consumer rights act 2015 because I would have more rights as a consumer claiming for a laptop that was not fit for purpose than trying to claim under a worthless Acer warranty. I paid Acer £49.95 to have my laptop returned without being repaired, I have paid £20 for a local independent inspection/report and to cut a very long story short Argos has now agreed to reimburse my expenses and pay for the required repairs (LATE UPDATE - Instead of the agreed repair Argos have now decided to give me a gift voucher as a full refund for the original cost of the laptop and have refunded all other expenses by cash and cheque - RESULT !!!) . The most annoying part of this was the fact that Acer maintained that there was nothing wrong with the hinges which was clearly a lie because my local repair shop pointed out that one of the part numbers in the Acer repair quote which was listed as a 'cover' was in fact a pair of new hinges. Acer know that they have an issue with poor quality hinges and casings, why else would they feel the need to exclude them from their warranty? Do not waste your money on an Acer, they are poor quality laptops which fall apart and are backed up my the most appalling and dishonest customer service. But many thanks to Citizens Advice for guiding me in my claim and Argos for eventually doing the right thing.

Awful Cutomer Service (Avoid)

I purchased a laptop from this company during a promotion. The promotion was acknowledged and accepted and I was told I would receive the extras from the promotions within 3 months. Almost 12 months on the extras have never arrived and Acer won't acknowledge it and pass the blame onto predator who ignore all emails. All cases sent to them get closed without resolving the issue. Never buy anything from this company as the customer service is dreadful and you will regret it.

IDEAL BRAND FOR SLOWEST COMPUTERS

I brought an Acer computer about a year ago. It was reliable, fast and good enough for the first few weeks. That is, until it started going incredibly slow. After reading these reviews, I'm not even going to bother contacting their support service. Besides, I'm expecting an Acer laptop to arrive before Saturday, but after using their crappy customer service "tickets" or whatever they're called, they couldn't possibly care less.
Trust me, you don't need to waste your time with these fools. They're a joke, they don't care about your satisfaction as a customer. They'll only take your money and laugh in your face over the phone.

Disgusting company

My 11 year old daughter saved her own Christmas and birthday money (£700) and bought herself an Acer gaming laptop, it arrived was unpacked and sat on our dining room table where she used it for a few weeks, one day it had an issue starting up so we called the technical team who went through some diagnostic tests, it was agreed we would box it back up and am they would collect it to fix it, when it got there they suggested it had been dropped and would cost £1000 to fix it - how can something that costs £700 cost another £300 to fix, not that anyone would be stupid enough to do so, basically they had us over a barrel as they wanted another £60 to send it back, we lost the laptop and my daughter lost her £700

Incompetent, Unaccountable & Farcical

Ordered laptop, after 3-4 day delay I was asked for ID (no explanation as to why or why not requested whilst ordering) I provided ID, several days of further confusion and delay followed, got cold feet, read some more ACER reviews (which were universally horrific) cancelled order, was assured over the phone that the item had not and would not be shipped......a day later they shipped it anyway (customer service team variously blamed internal delay and their own warehouse staff).

Spoke to ACER customer service daily (and confirmed every conversation in writing), was told that they would contact their courier and have the unit returned to them, they didn’t and then went on to blame their own courier.

I was then told to wait for the unit to arrive at my home and refuse delivery, when the courier did return the item I asked for a refund, I was asked to wait until (their) courier returned the item to ACER’s warehouse (in Poland), customer service blamed their (non public facing) returns team.

When the item was returned to ACER I was (several days later) told I would have to wait up to C three weeks (14 business days) to be refunded, this time they blamed their commerce partner (modus link bv).

Embarrassingly incompetent from end to end.

ACER Nitro-5 laptop - Extremely poor extended warranty service

I bought the Nitro-5 laptop as my husband who is a retired electronics engineer knew which laptop to buy and it seems to boot up fast and equally seems to be robust, but it is only 10 days since I received it so I haven't had it long enough to judge longevity.

What is a problem is the extended 4-year Care Plus warranty we took out. As we usually buy Dell laptops we assumed Acer's 4-year warranty would be as good; it is nothing like Dell's warranty.

Within 4 days of receiving the laptop as we were working through the User Manual we pressed the Nitrosense button and found the cap loose (see video my husband uploaded to Youtube explaining the problem to Youtubers and warning them to be alert to Acer's extended warranty: "Acer computer warranty warning Part-1)" will display it.

Basically trying to get a human to talk to us even with an extended warranty when a problem arises was impossible with only access to a "self service" warranty database form on our Acer online account being available.

Even the hassles of a new laptop having a fault wasn't a deterrent necessarily. What was the key issue was the terms and conditions of the extended warranty which suggested that any repairs Acer could use refurbished parts or even a complete refurbished unit if necessary.

From the video my husband makes clear that had the T&Cs said that the 4th year of a warranty would potentially start the use of refurbished parts, then that is one thing. But the letter of the T&Cs is legally such that this can happen throughout the duration of a 4-year warranty. YOUR NOT ON, was my husband's words.

So we wanted to talk with someone in authority who could give us assurance that refurbished parts would not be used during the first 3 years of our warranty But could we get someone to confirm that? We could have got that settled with Dell, but not Acer. Every phone call was a digital voice apologising for the delays.

Now it's been almost a week since attempting to contact Acer using both telephone numbers found on the extended warranty paperwork, trying many times, without getting connected to a single assistant. I even left a message on one number as it eventually resorted to voicemail, so we left a message explaining the button problem, but still no reply.

We then left a message on their online messaging system accessed through one's own online Acer account, this time giving detailed explanation of our problem and unhappiness with the warranty service.

Next we emailed them on the one email address found on the warranty paperwork complete with images for clarity. Guess what? Yes your right, after almost a week haven't received a cheap from Acer.

Finally my husband searched high and low through paperwork and on the internet and found a business number. Guess what? Yes, this one answered with a human. So clearly they are servicing business but leaving the private customer without a service, contrary to the wonderful hype about looking after the "premium" customer with "premium warranty service" from their paper work.

The telephone assistant was not an independent thinker, but a automaton that could only arrange shipping labels so you could send your laptop back for repair, the very thing I don't want until I have it confirmed that my 4-year warranty will not use refurbished parts during the first three years. If not, the video shows we want our money back.

We are angry and feel utterly deceived with my husband wasted much time chasing how to punch through the wall of silence which is Acer's "premium friendly" extended warranty.

Ultimately my husband was forced to produce the Youtube video as he is a retired electronics engineer and so knows what one should expect with computers and warranties. All in all, 3 full days of his effort has gone in to trying to get satisfaction without success and producing the video.

If all the emails, voicemails the video and this review and his two letters he will write tomorrow do not bring satisfaction we will get our money back. If this is the outcome he will produce be the most damming Part-2 Youtube video which will stay forever on Youtube.

His letters will highlight that we left Dell to go for an Acer laptop out of loyalty to the US who are trying to pull manufacturing out from China, and as Dell manufacture in China Dell was not an option. My husband had sympathy for the Taiwan company Acer because Taiwan are under the Chinese bully and should have international recognition as an independent state, hence our support for them. Their total absence of customer facing warranty service has made us regret our choice.

Over to you Acer to show us you can correct this problem even at this late stage, because the Nitro-5 seems a good laptop. Failing that it's our money back and a Dell XPS-15, which we will suggest to Youtubers in our Part-2 video.

If you want the slowest laptop ever

If you want the slowest laptop ever then this is the right one for you. Bought brand new December 2017 very slow first couple of weeks, then it was fine for around a month. After that it gets slower and slower with everything. Absolutely loads of space available, all updates complete, regularly scanned virus checked. Worst purchase ever, never would recommend.

One of my bad purchases ever. I never thought that Acer laptop has a lifespan of only about 5 years or less. Been encountering a lot of issues since I bought it. Just last month, the technician surrendered fixing it.

Acer laptops are uniquely unreliable

Acer laptops are uniquely unreliable. My first had various problems pretty quickly, but I thought maybe it was a fluke; I'm generally not too cynical about companies, and thought specs mattered far more, so when I found a sale on another Acer laptop I got it. It also started having all sorts of problems: slow even when I first got it, and even after de-fragging and other fixes, shutting down while still showing a battery charge of 30%, crashing occasionally within a month of me buying it, and too many others to list.

My girlfriend also ended up with an Acer, started having problems within a couple months (and it always ran slow relative to its specs, even after trying various fixes). She also hates it and has sworn off of the brand. I know another friend who has sworn off their laptops.

Yes I know, everyone has at least one gripe about every computer they have ever owned. But seriously I'm trying to be objective and honestly believe I've had about 2.5 times as much headache from my Acer laptops as I've had from Asus, the one Mac I tried, and even the discount HP laptops I've used (ok maybe only 1.5 times in that case, but they cost much less than either Acer I used and were older).

My Acer laptop is 1 week from being 1 yr old and completely shutdown. There is no life whatsoever. I am not able to complete the info on the website, for some unknown reason, and I've been on hold with tech support for 1Hr and 23 minutes. Very disappointed with service and the Company.

Acer ConceptD 7 Pro - what a nightmare!!!

Acer, I want to give you my money, but clearly you don’t need it. Just read this... Phone call 1) 18 minutes waiting to talk to “technical” at the only number I can find on their website. They couldn’t help, or maybe didn’t want to, he mumbled a sales number to call. Phone call 2) another 10 minutes wait to a call centre in South Africa where a clearly disinterested agent couldn’t help, and again referred me to the “technical “ team I initially called. Phone call 3) I eventually gave up after 41 minutes wait. I have a screen grab to prove it if only it could be uploaded. If this is how bad it is trying to buy a computer from them (Concept D7 Pro) then imagine how bad it will be when you need a repair or any other support!

Well compared to most of you my…

Well compared to most of you my experience of Acer is positive - I have purchased 2 Acer laptops one of which did died after 6 years, in my mind I got value for money as it was used every day. The other one is now coming in to its 6th year and still going strong - Battery life has reduced as would be expected but again it is used every day (i'm on it right now). The one that died was purchased in the UK, the one that I'm on at the moment was purchased in the USA where I use to live. They were identical computers just purchased in different countries.

The computers both where used for usual daily activities plus I ran CorelDraw and VideoStudio on both and the internet. Never downloaded games on the one that died but this one has in the past when my son had it.

I'm now looking to upgrade and treat myself and Acer is my first choice.

I recently got a Acer Nitro 7 Gaming laptop. I love it! This is coming from someone who has owned an Alienware laptop. The Nitro 7 has more room for upgrades than the Alienware with comparable specs. Nitro 7 cones with 9th gen Intel i7, Gforce 1050, 8gb ram 256 SSD. Red back lit keyboard that feels like a desktop keyboard. Its light and slim. There are 2 SSD bays and one for A SATA drive. Can max out ram at 32gb. I call it the little monster. There is onboard CPU and GPU cooling system that works well thats a lot more quite than other laptop and desk top cooling systems I’ve had.

This is a great buy, Don’t bother with a console, spend another $200-$300 and get something proper
