Today was my first visit to Torquay…
Today was my first visit to Torquay Pure gym and my first class. It was a ‘burn’ class taken by Charlie. Everyone was friendly and Charlie pitched the class to suit all abilities. I will be going again.
The staff that I have spoken to are friendly and approachable.
The subscription is competitive and value for money.
Overall I’m happy I have swapped gyms!

We don't have pools/saunas etc. as standard in our gyms as our focus is on providing quality fitness equipment while keeping costs affordable for all members, however all our gyms offer changing rooms, with showers and lockers available.

Pure gym - excellent equipment and staff
I find the gym equipment to be organised extremely high standard and well maintained by staff. During this recent spell of hot weather I find the gym temperature pleasantly cool to train in due to the use of the air conditioning units Staff and PT's are welcoming and extremely knowledgeable.. always willing to assist.

Luke warm showers but for cheap gym, good value
For a general cheap gym, you get the basics.... the facilities are basic but good although the showers are always Luke warm at best! (Which as a van-lifer, is very dissapointing to have a luke-warm shower post sweat.)
Really enjoy the 24/hr access as I have autism so a busy gym is not accessible for me.
In-person puregym staff are very helpful and knowledgeable however if you require further assistance... it is non-existent. I emailed them about my dissability access request 2 years ago and I still have not had a response....
Another thing to note is that not all car parking is free, and not obviously stated by the gyms... as someone who travels between Scoltand and England every month, these small details have led to a few car parking fines which could have been easily alleviated with a sign or something very simple from Puregym. Puregym where also obviously not willing to help at all, but thats fair i suppose.
The final note of improvement is that as puregym has expanded, their system for multi-gym access has become increasingly complex to meander through. Again, most likely due to my autism.... I find it very difficult. I also dont like now that your home gym only allows you access to other gyms in the area. Id be very happy to pay a premium price to have access to all gyms rather then to arrive at midnight only to find out I dont have access to this gym.... and have to travel 2 hours more to get to a puregym that is within my tier. Im sure it was not like this before.
Overall, cheap monthly payment, basic equipment... so exactly what you pay for :)

The staff are exceptionally helpful
The staff are exceptionally helpful, especially seen as this is the beginning of the gym journey. Specifically Shaq and David they are and continue to be major supports and even serve to be a inspiration. As a whole this PureGym is much better than I had assumed it being.

I was made to feel so welcome on my initial enquiry visit, then again today when I returned as a member. The manager had remembered me and went out of his way to put me at ease and listen to my questions.( And rescue me when my padlock malfunctioned).

The Difference a Great Coach Can Make.
Chloe Rowe is an amazing personal and group trainer. The workouts are always creative, well planned, and varied, whether it's a high-intensity session or a more focused core workout.

I enjoy the feel of the gym
I enjoy the feel of the gym it’s friendly other members and staff are helpful and there if you need help. The gym is clean with no unpleasant smells.
Only negative comment is that the exercise mats needs an upgrade as most of them are broken or torn in some way..

Hostile Environment and Poor Customer Service
I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I received at PureGym Thamesmead, and it has left me with no choice but to cancel my membership permanently.
I attended the gym for my usual workout when a member of staff approached me and told me I was not allowed to train because my trousers were supposedly not appropriate gym wear. I explained that, although they have the appearance of jeans, they are in fact designed specifically for training. Instead of listening, the staff member attempted to touch my trousers to determine the material. I found this completely inappropriate and unacceptable. No member of staff should be attempting to physically inspect a customer's clothing while they are wearing it.
What made the situation even worse was that the staff member refused to identify himself when I asked for his name so that I could make a complaint. I believe customers have the right to know the identity of the staff member dealing with them, especially when a complaint is being made.
Another member of staff, Lacey, was called over, but rather than handling the situation professionally or fairly, she simply supported her colleague without properly addressing my concerns.
To make matters worse, another gym member, who appeared to know the staff member, was allowed to shout at me and speak to me disrespectfully, with no intervention from staff. The staff member also involved other gym members in commenting on my gym wear, which left me feeling embarrassed, intimidated, and let down. In my view, this was unprofessional and highlights the need for better staff training in professionalism, customer care, and handling situations respectfully.
This is not the first time I have experienced unprofessional behaviour from staff at PureGym, but it is certainly the final straw. I now consider PureGym Thamesmead to be a hostile and unwelcoming environment.
As a result of this experience, I have cancelled my membership and will never join PureGym again. I expected to be treated with respect and professionalism, but unfortunately that was not my experience.
