If I could leave ZERO stars I would. I called to try and lower my bill by dropping services I am not using. I was put on hold no less than 6 times, given the runaround about all the different options including trying to force me to get a cell phone I do not need to lower my bill. The person I was dealing with was not listening to what I wanted. In the end nothing was resolved & I will now be canceling with Optimum & using a different company. Could not believe how terrible and shady this interaction was. Do not do business with these people!

Had them for internet, would never make that choice again. Difficult to contact, and gave me a hard time when I moved about cancelling service. Also, internet frequently dropped. Lesson learned

Run and don’t look back or think twice about getting with optimum. The list of horrible services and assistance is too long to type on here and I don’t have the patience. Just take my word for it and optiminimum don’t bother replying with your automated responses eat 🍆🖕🏾

Abysmal.... Optimum gave me a reasonable price for one gigabyte service (which was never really one gigabyte) slowly over the course of a year that price more than doubled without me noticing. After checking with friends and neighbors, I decided to switch to goNetSpeed and started the lengthy process to cancel my Optimum. Multiple phone calls, chat sessions, even visiting the store to drop off equipment and still not canceled. This was worse than breaking up with a crazed girlfriend who just won't let you go....worse, because this one keeps asking for money. Even though my service has been cancelled now for well over a week, I returned all my equipment seven days ago… I just received an email stating that I can expect to be charged an additional $190 for next month's service. I'm currently chatting with tech Support right now who says I'm very sorry about this. That's what the last two representatives also said. It's borderline comical, but it's just not funny. I have saved all the screenshots of past reps confirming that my service has been cancelled just in case they do try to hit me for another $190. Save yourself the trouble,...go directly to GoNetSpeed or other provider.

This is literally the worst company I have ever dealt with. The internet service goes down constantly
You have to talk a bot for 10 minutes before you are switched to a human which takes about an hour of waiting. They run you through 15 things they read out of a book and then schedule an appt for service. Please look for another internet provider if you can !!!

The DSR that visited us in June was pleasant and helpful. We were unsatisfied with the internet service and switched to Brightspeed. Then we tried to port the cellular connection to TMobile. That’s when Optimum pushed to get their new promotion on our account. I didn’t appreciate the runaround. Transferred to at least 5 reps to get our bill straight. Finally, we were told that the cellphone couldn’t be ported. Not satisfied with the billing and customer services.

16-year Cox / Suddenlink / Optimum previous subscriber. These people are professional at treating customers poorly. If you have a choice and want fiber, and you choose or are considering Optimum, make sure you ask them directly if they have fiber to the home or coax to the home! They are known for using language like “fiber powered,” which does not mean fiber internet to the home. It means the critical "last mile" into your home is still the exact same legacy copper coaxial cable that cable companies have used since the 1980s.
I switched to the first competitor that showed up. The retention lady practically tried to give me their internet; I told her it was the most rewarding cancellation I have ever done and no amount of savings, even if it were free, would change my mind. If you are interested, select lowest reviews on the Google review page and read through the complaints. They are very accurate and reflective of their F rating with the Better Business Bureau!
In response to Optimum: I don’t have any issues with your company anymore; my issues went unresolved for 16 years and you failed to address them. Your competitor fixed everything for me that you failed to do!

The South Park episode titled "Informative Murder Porn" (Season 17, Episode 2) perfectly satirizes the mindset of this company.

Absolutely horrendous company. Customer service is horrendous, especially troubleshooting issues. I upgraded my TV package and 3 hours later those channels did not show up. Their tech support answer was to unplug the cable box and plug it back in. Lol, like that was going to miraculously make a 100 channels blink into existence. Still waiting for answers...my advice go to Verizon

I tried to transfer my landline from another carrier to an Optimum Mobile device, and it has been an absolute nightmare. Over the course of a month, I made 10 separate phone calls—averaging 30 minutes each—and customer service completely failed to solve the issue. They simply could not transfer the landline to the mobile device. When I finally called to cancel my account due to this incompetence, the escalation team representative held me hostage on the phone for another 30 minutes. Despite clearly explaining multiple times that I just wanted to cancel, they ignored my request and repeatedly tried to push discounts on me. Avoid this carrier if you value your time and sanity.

From day one this company has lied about billing. First month, the bill was doubled. On inquiry they informed us we were behind and also they bill in advance. I paid that completely. Have paid every month since for service that basically turns off at 10 pm and on again about 6 pm. I guess they think no one will notice. Every month there is some fee added, $20 here, $50 there, and no recourse. So I changed to another service. No where online to cancel. I took the equipment to an Optimum store and received a receipt, but they were not able to cancel service. I called to cancel and was told it was done. Checked online a day or two later, nope. I called again and was told they had to physically come disconnect - in a few days. Checked in a few days, nope, but my bill had DOUBLED for THE NEXT MONTH. I pay in advance and should have been paid up until the 30th - they actually owe me a refund since I returned equipment and started this on the 7th. Called today was told I was behind on my bill. For the service I no longer have. Got a big run around. I just reported them to the FCC. Read on Reddit that they continue to bill for months and months after cancellation attempts. Apparently, you can't cancel. BEWARE!!!

I have been a customer for 13 years and finally leaving optimum for Verizon best decision I've ever made.
The connection was always always always a problem, the prices going up up up, and as soon as I wanted to leave customer service wanted to give me more promotion or discount almost felt harassed and uncomfortable. I was 30minutes trying to cancel it. I didn't ever want to know about Optimum ever again in my entire life.

My mother passed suddenly and I am out of state trying to handle as much as I can long distance. I had the misfortune of having to talk to Optimum customer service to disconnect her internet. The level of kindness shown was so frustrating and the rep was very rude on to of the entire interaction. The only concern was that I return the router right away. Thanks for your understanding and compassion (not in the least)

Another day another outage. I lost count of how many outages we had in the couple weeks. Outrageous!!

Worst place ever, false information, when you try to cancel the customer services ladies are bullies. Refused to do the cancellation. 6 complaint emails, told the services was cancelled and this month just debit my account again. Poor poor

Literally the worst service ever. Leaving after two weeks. Drop calls, dead spots in the middle of nyc and entire areas of CT that show “ultimate” coverage on tmobile site can’t even get texts or maps.
They responded they want to help here on this review. But I tried to port my number out and they make it hard. Can’t do online like other providers (that made it easier to switch to them), and I waited on hold for ten minutes without an answer when I was told by chat I had to speak to someone at their 800 number in order to cancel service. And their initial response was “just enable WiFi calling and your fiber will be amazing!” To which I replied my phone works fine in my house. But that is literally the only place it works even 1/4 as good as it previously worked before optimum service. Calling from my livingroom isn’t the problem. Not being able to load Google maps or get internet or texts when I have 3 bars and 5G on my status bar is a big issue.

Charging late fees when check was mailed 7 days in advance of due date. Taking too long to process and credit account on thier end and then wanting us to pay extra. Rep told me it takes 14 days to process check

Absolutely unacceptable customer service.
I called Optimum to cancel my service because I had decided to go with a different provider. I was clear from the start that I wanted to cancel. Instead of respecting my decision, the representative spent approximately 30 minutes repeatedly trying to convince me to stay with discounts and promotions. I declined every offer and repeatedly said no.
I have diagnosed social anxiety and am neurodivergent, and these prolonged, high-pressure conversations can be extremely overwhelming for me. After 30 minutes of saying “no” and still feeling like my decision wasn’t being respected, I became overwhelmed and had to hang up.
I called back the next day, hoping it would be easier. Instead, I spent another 40 minutes being pressured to stay, despite repeatedly making it clear that I wanted to cancel. At that point, this went beyond customer retention—it felt like harassment. I became so overwhelmed that I had to hang up again and ended up crying from frustration.
I later received a message saying I would be charged for the next billing cycle, even though I had already made multiple attempts to cancel before the previous billing cycle ended.
Eventually, I had to have my husband handle the call because I was too overwhelmed to continue. Even after being transferred to Tier 2, I was again pressured to stay before the cancellation was finally processed. The representative’s attitude was also unnecessarily rude.
I understand that customer retention is part of the job, but there has to be a limit. When a customer has said “no, I want to cancel” repeatedly for 30–40 minutes, continuing to pressure them is not good customer service.
“No” should be enough. Customers should not have to endure prolonged pressure, feel harassed, become overwhelmed, or be reduced to tears just to cancel a service.
