Very quick service on return.

Totally happy with everything. Price, service, communication, vehicle, simplicity of pick up drop off and making the booking. Unfortunately we needed to make a damages claim, and that process was very simple and pain free. Response to a question I had about the claim was timely and clear. Staff were all professional and pleasant to deal with. Totally recommend to others.

Good car at a good price for what we needed. Slight delay in getting shuttle bus back to Melbourne airport, but no great problem. I left my expensive prescription glasses either in the car or the shuttle bus, contacted them and all sorted with minimal hassle.

I have used bargain in every capital city, this time in Brisbane shocking a car with alert ⚠️ on the fashion and telling me I had flat tyres, then found a diabetic syringe in back seat, glad I don't have kids

Stay away from their MGs
Staff were ok and efficient but the car we hired was the worst car I’d ever driven! Not whatever you hire their base MG.
Very good customer service in Sydney
Very good customer service in Sydney. I had a lovely new luxury car at a great price.
Very average service in Cairns
Very average service in Cairns. Waited a long time for pick up. Staff very unhelpful at reception. Tried to sell us an insurance policy that was outrageous in price (more than the rental!) and implied that without it we’d be “virtually uninsured “ - his words , not mine.
These guys don’t come across as ethical or as if they care in any way about customer service.
Dirty cars with engine issues
Rented twice with bargain at Maroochydore airport. Both times the cars were still dirty inside with sticky steering wheels and debris in the consoles.
Second time the car I rented started flashing an orange engine sign on the dashboard when I accelerated or went up hill and the engine was struggling.
I reported the issue to Bargain and they refused to send a toll truck, instead telling me that I had to drive it back myself.
When I returned the car, the car was struggling so much that I did not want to detour to a service station. I had not driven it since the engine issue came up anyway so had only use $15 of fuel.
On return I had explained the situation to the front desk, who assured me they would put a note on the booking so I would not be charged for the fuel.
Not only has their accounts charged me for $15 of fuel, they have added an ‘admin’ charge of $85 for their faulty unsafe car.
Never again and I will be contacting QLD transport and ACCC to formally complain.

A dismissive, unsafe and poor experience
I have had a really poor experience with Bargain Car Rentals on the Gold Coast and feel compelled to share with other drivers.
Firstly, it is really hard to get through to them via their contact number, so be ready for wait times and I think they were closed Sunday.
The staff working in the Gold Coast office are great and did their best, it is their customer service team I am really shocked about and the car operations.
I travelled to the Gold Coast with my son who is 9 years old. I hired a Kia Stonic for a week. I never received this car; I received a brand I had never heard of, and was told it was the best car. I was ok with this. What I was not ok with was Apple CarPlay not working in the car and not being able to visualise the map without asking my son to help (9!) or have it on my lap. I was given another car (same brand), and Apple CarPlay worked until I parked. Then didn't work. I drove back to the centre as we had a huge journey ahead of us, where I flagged that Iwould not drive a car without a visual map. It was just me and my son. I was given a cable – the high data ones you see in petrol stations. It worked. However, when I parked again, it cut out just as we were getting on the highway. I purchased two other cables – the same thing happened. I had to get my son to sit up front and hand me the map as I could not keep it on my lap as we went through a bunch of towns.
This was scary. It really was stressful for me and my son. I purchased two cables as per the advice I was given and used another phone. Same thing happened.
I think the worst part, though, is the customer care office online. In person, they are better, but online, I was pretty shocked by their responses. In no uncertain terms, I was told:
It was the fault of the booking portal that I did not receive the car I asked for.
That Apple CarPlay is not a necessary safety function of the car (??).
That the cables were at fault.
That the phone was at fault.
I have never seen so much diversion from a company, even senior staff. Rather than saying, “I will look into that,” I felt incredibly unsafe communicating with them due to the diversion. I actually thought it was a spoof. I called to speak with a manager and escalate the complaint. They have no escalation pathway beyond their team leader. So one person is in charge of it all, and one of his lines in his correspondence was:
“While I understand it may be frustrating that you're unable to get Apple CarPlay to work, this does not affect the safety of the vehicle or prevent it from being driven.”
I disagree. Not being able to visualise maps when travelling solo in a car and place you are not familiar with and with kids, is not safe.
A week’s rental cost over $700, including comprehensive car insurance. I suggest really thinking about another company if you are not used to Gold Coast roads — a lot is happening there at the moment. It was dangerous, and I was completely dismissed by their online team - they are better in person. They offered a day's refund and no acknowledgement of time wastage, car safety, or their overall dismissive responses. I wanted a refund for the cables and something done. Not some rubbish day refund ( minus insurance)
Stay save.
Normally I book my vehicles through Bargain.
Normally I book my vehicles through Bargain Car Rentals and I'm very 5 star satisfied.
However I attempted to book a car to collect from Melbourne and to drop-off in Adelaide. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to do this, BUT booking from Adelaide to Melbourne is OK. Which is confusing and disappointing.
Unfortunately I will now have to look elsewhere for a booking. But I will be back.
