Incompetent staff - useless
Incompetent staff
Had a problem connecting a remote control to a Sharp TV as my old remote had developed a fault. I bought a new one from UMC but despite following their instructions supplied it would not 'pair' with the TV. I was told to return it which I did.
They said the remote was OK and sent another but refused to refund my postage.
The replacement remote still did not work and eventually after wasting a lot of time their CS advisor stated "I am very sorry but I appear to have made an error. I mistakenly thought your remote control was an infra-red remote control. However, I have since learnt that your remote control is operated via radio frequency and as such needs to be paired with the television to operate."
So her error and she still refused to refund my postage.
This is a classic example of incompetence, it took numerous emails, two remotes and was 4 weeks before she finally admitted her mistake.
Absolutely useless.
I'm now submitting a formal complaint and asking for compensation. I'll update this post with the outcome.
Update 17th November turns out the Escalation team is also pretty useless. CS staff obviously can't understand simple English.
Rubbish
If want help!! Don't bother with UMC. They are an absolute waste of time and money!!
Give false information and don't carry out repairs!
Umc are lying conning scum
It's actually unbelievable a company like this exists outside a delboy market! Took my TV for a repair and literally sent it back with no fix and actually more issues! Contacted them and said this time I wanted the tv replaced and all I was told to was to send the TV back again for another repair! They told me they do not replace TVs (even though it clearly states in the guarantee that they do replacements) Guarantee says one thing they say the other. When challenged about this they said they can't replace it because they didn't sell me the TV. So when asked where can I buy one of their TVs? They unwittingly admitted they don't actually sell TVs! Joke mob! Luckily I got a full refund but lesson learned, Do not go near umc or Sharp!
Background: The empty warranty
Background:
I bought this Sharp microwave oven in July, the Amazon Prime day. I was heating some milk with a ceramic cup using the microwave oven. I saw some flashing in the oven and some fumes came out. I immediately unplugged the power and found a burn mark. UMC UK, the Sharp UK maintenance service, declined my warranty service request says that I misused the microwave. They said debris must had been on the waveguide cover so that it was burnt during the cooking. They also said it must had been a repeated misuse. However my oven was clear and had regularly been cleaned the internals. They drew this conclusion simply by looking at the picture without even checking the functionalities of the microwave oven.
Thoughts:
After 30 days the proofing burden is on the customers that the products which were faulty while we initially bought it. How much does it cost to compile an independent expert report claiming that the product was defective when bought and fight the legal proceedings? Very costly. They know we have little to tackle them. The manufacturer has the ultimate say on what to repair and what not to. Consumers are so helpless facing these dishonest companies.
Shoddy
Sent my 50inch sharp tv to umc for repair as it was out of warranty (16 months old) the courier collected it after 2 week it needed a new mother board after seeking advise from sharp. Had it returned with the trim fitted wrong and lines in the picture now its ruined it cost me 89 pounds for the repair ive asked for a refund
Disgusting service
Disgusting service , purchased remote control given model number and batteries. Recieved wrong remote, I was asked to send it back in same condition, which had batteries already in it.
Correct remote Recieved now 3 weeks later without the batteries. When I called to ask why, I was told I would have to a further £1 to get the batteries back. Even though I had paid for 2 AAA batteries.
No customer service at all. Just told to send a feedback complaint.
I won't buy a sharp TV again as remote stopped working within 2 years, and you can only buy these remotes from UMC
unhelpful helpline
Bought a Sharp smart tv and had issues later both with the onscreen program guide locking up and the only way to clear this was to turn off at plug, and also with the on demand tv function, where you could load I-player or ITV hub etc but then it would sit there doing nothing. Software upgrade worked for a while then same issues again. second software upgrade worked again, but same problem returned. TV now out of warranty and helpline were not interested, so asked to go higher up the foodchain. Was put on the "escalation team" person by the name of Sian. Was told that it was company policy not to offer any help outside of warranty other than for me to return tv to them for assessment and possible repair, both at cost. Wasn't interested that the problem had been present twice already and said an auto update must have been corrupted during download. Said she knew all about tv's and that this is what would have happened and told me to go back to Curry's where we bought it from. After over an hour attempting to get something better from them as I thought it could be a component or build issue I left the call as I was told there was no-one else I could speak with and constantly being referred to "but its company policy" and "we would be bankrupt if we offered to cover any part of the costs". To call this a helpline is a joke, customer service is shocking to say the least and is basically non existent.
I did go back to Currys who told me that the helpline are wrong to say the issue is down to the retailer, but the attitude is was totally opposite, she offered other ways to find possible help and the Curry's helpline I spoke to offered a very simple solution that I tried and it worked! So much for Sian knowing all about tv's! Great customer support from Curry's at Leigh Lancs, the lady in question Shell, even phoned me back a couple of days later to ask how things had gone since our visit. 10 stars for Shell, would give none for Sian if I could.
Guarantee not honoured
Provided Guarantee certificate, original purchase from Tesco direct.
The product delivered 11th June, while online order was made 9th.
Guarantee certificate had the date 11th June. All the way 11th June 2023.
While the guarantee is for 5 years till June 2023, umc-uk declining to deal with repair.
Appalling, even after speaking supervisor “Ben” – refused to honour the claim.
Absolutely Useless Support
Absolutely no use whatsoever. I had an issue with a Sharp tv screen, was sent two seperate software update files which made the issue even worse, one of the files was a text file!!
Tesco Give Useless UMC Warranty
Tesco gave a free 5 year warranty for a Sharp 49" TV the bad news was they used UMC and they will try every excuse to avoid fixing the TV as a previous reviewer stated avoid, avoid, avoid.
bad bad bad bad

My 49 inch Sharp TV was well out of guarantee when it failed to turn on . I had a quote of up to £300 locally for repair . I contacted UMC they gave a fixed price quote including collection and return of £89.99 . the TV was collected on Wednesday and returned Friday .
TV repaired ok but expensive help line
I have a Sharp TV which developed a fault(dark shadow on the screen)after 11 months. After seeing the negative reviews on here about the UMC warranty service I was quite pessimistic that it would get repaired satisfactorily.I rang the helpline 0871 number to explain and a courier arrived next day with a box to package the TV.The TV came back 3 days later fully repaired with a new panel fitted.A positive experience overall but a star deducted for the premium rate phone line which cost over £5.
Had to send my sharp tv after a fault…
Had to send my sharp tv after a fault with the screen was only away 3 days fantastic service replaced the panel on tv so it's like new thanks guys
Dreadful support. SHARP TV USB Record facility does not work.
Almost as bad as their Sharp TVs.
If it’s a USB recording function you’re after, it won’t work, so ...
A) don’t buy any Sharp TV (I’ve had 2 and both have presented with the same problem; even the retailer (Curry’s) said don’t buy as the record function is useless.
B) Don’t expect support from this lot. They deny there’s a problem, despite one of the team telling me there IS a problem with USB recording. They just ask you to return the TV!? and it will be away for 7 days!
The reps. became very defensive and unhelpful, despite my remaining calm and asking for help.
STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT (if you plan to use its USB recording facility) AND THIS ‘SUPPORT‘ CENTRE.
(I am using the recommended USB drive. The facility works for a day or two, and then fails. The TV has to be reset and channels re-tuned to get it to work. Then it fails again).
Useless company

Useless liars
Bought a new Sharp TV from Box.co.uk
Arrived new with 2 left stand feet. Been waiting over 2 weeks and still haven't received the correct feet for the TV from UMC so still unable to use the TV. Been lied to by the staff on the phone saying it was in stock when it wasn't. Useless.
Didnt check or fix my sharp tv.
Sent them my 6 month old sharp 4k tv, went without tv for a week. Returned it with same fault saying they had reloaded SW and tested fine. Engineer was Liam and Aimee was agent. Appalling service.
I returned tv to argos who gave an immediate refund.
