Etymonline.com is only a broader dictionary with a greater vocabulary than the average dictionary.

I have typed in words that I know the origins of. I didn't even once get the truth in origin for any of them. Mortgage,meaning death and slave,(in a nutshell,) not even slightly mentioned. Register, meaning regis (king) ister (surrender) every time you put money in a register, you surrender it to "the king" whomever that is. I do not believe this is a real etymology compilation.
