Never rented a car
Never rented a car, used their services or was in contact with the company. They suddenly requested money from me.
Bait and switch
I booked a car with Avis through British Airways specifically because the deal included an additional driver at no extra charge. When I arrived at the destination (Philadelphia) I was offered an “upgrade” which I accepted — and now regret! The person taking action on my rental at the counter didn’t tell me that the different arrangements for the upgrade didn’t include the additional driver free of charge as per my original booking. When I called to query this, I was told by the customer service staff with whom I spoke that they couldn’t do anything about the charges because I had signed a valid rental agreement.
Avis: decent customer service involves making your fees clear to consumers. When they book one thing and receive another without an indication as to what has happened, that is bait and switch. I will take my business elsewhere next time.

Avis in Rutland Vermont was fast and had exceptional customer service. My questions were addressed professionally and the service was excellent.
Great service
Great service, nice quick and easy, John from Glasgow airport desk is the nicest guy I ever met! Fully recommend.
Never received my deposit back!
Never received my deposit back!! Scam car rental!! DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!!!
Scammers and daylight robbery.
Scammers and daylight robbery.
Arrived at the Avis counter at Alicante airport. Presented my booking to be told we don’t have that vehicle but we can provide an alternative. I wasn’t overly concerned with this was happy to receive a similar size car Ford focus > Citroen C4.
I returned the car a day early to be told you upgraded the car and it would be €20 more per day.
I was not informed of these changes, nor told about these changes and did not authorise these changes.
Don’t trust them, all scammers and untrustworthy praying on everyone to make a quick buck. Such a sad end to our holiday.

Overbooked and left stranded at Aruba Airport – No car provided!
I had a confirmed and paid reservation (Booking #D012797171) for February 27th at the Avis desk in Aruba Airport. When I arrived at the counter, the staff simply told me they had no cars available due to overbooking.
To make matters worse, they refused to provide any written confirmation of the situation, leaving me without transport and without immediate proof for my refund. This is an unacceptable and unprofessional practice.
I am still waiting for a full refund and a formal apology. I strongly advise travelers to be cautious when booking with Avis in Aruba, as a "confirmed reservation" clearly doesn't guarantee you a vehicle.
Reservation Date: February 27th, 2026.
Location: Queen Beatrix International Airport, Aruba.

I rented a car over the phone with a customer service rep. When I went to pick up the car, I told the service rep that I was there to pick up a reservation. She asked my name and then told me that I was a "pop up" and that they, unfortunately, didn't have any cars available to rent and canceled my reservation. No one contacted me about this cancellation. When I asked if they had any other cars, she said no cars were available. Although they had quite a few in their parking lot. I'm very disappointed. Not sure I'll go to Avis again.

Location: Edinburgh Waverley Train Station
Josh was really quick and very friendly. Got my car today within 10 mins and he was very clear about how to deposit the car during after-hours.
I don't know about all the negative reviews, even got the deposit back next day.
I’d give it zero if I could-I never thought I’d use that title
I’d give it zero if I could. I never thought I’d be the one to make that comment. I really wish I would have read their reviews before “signing their contract”.
I rented a vehicle from them for the week after Christmas. On New Year’s Eve we ran into a deer at about 8pm. We were in the middle of nowhere in Artesia, New Mexico. We called their customer service line and spoke to a few inaudible people who had no answers or solutions. They didn’t know where the nearest Avis/Budget rental place was. They didn’t have any supervisors. Almost as though nothing ever goes wrong so they don’t have anyone standing by when there’s an accident. After the 5th or 6th phone call to them, a nice person said they would connect us to their roadside service. They said someone would drive a different car out for us. As we waited on hold, someone from BILLING picked up. That should’ve been my first clue. So we hung up and called back an unusually ridiculous amount of times to get someone knowledgeable again. They said they’d connect us to the roadside assistance… This time we just got disconnected. So we slept in the car for new years.
This way in the daylight we can inspect the damage and see if it safe to drive. We limped to the nearest Walmart to tape up the broken lights and lenses. The car kept screaming that we were about to crash. All the sensors were flashing warnings. So we drove like this at low speeds while we were calling again trying to get someone to talk to about what to do. Someone told us to go way south- they didn’t know if they had any cars available for us. So we called them and they did NOT. It is local only and their cars couldn’t go out of state. Back to A/B’ spectacular CS, more of the same. No answers, no information, no supervisors.
We ended up in OKC. Stan helped us and has heard complaints about their CS constantly. We turned in that crashed car and got a different one. But as we were going down the road, we felt a shuddering. So we went back. We went in to the entrance to return the car so we got charged $1050. They said that charge would fall off. (It still hasn’t fallen off) So we finally got a drivable vehicle. They said we would hear from them within 30 days. If not to call them lol We got home around midnight.
Around the end of January A/B finally called me. Told me how much I owed, asked my deductible, and told me what I would pay. (Plus Another fee so I guess they can pay the useless people at their overseas call canter) Then I spoke with my insurance adjuster. Short and sweet. She said they would take care of it.
Then about 3 weeks later AvisBudget started literally harassing me telling that they can’t get ahold of my insurance. He told me that I should call them. And that I owed $9100 because I signed the contract. He stated that they work with my insurance company as a COURTESY. He was even nice enough to attach a copy of the contract to a passive-aggressive email. I DID do his job for him and called my adjuster. I left a voicemail for her yesterday. I then called the 800 number to my insurance company. A really helpful gentleman pulled up the claim in under a minute. He told me it was in the final stages and should be wrapped up within a few days. And also that he should NOT have had me call them. (The insurance adjuster dealing with this claim called me back today and said she was on vacation for 6 days and had received the “demands” from Avis.)
I still can’t get ahold of anyone in customer service about that little errant charge of $1050. Nobody knows why it’s on there or how to refund it. Negligence.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this rental company at Newark Airport and I am formally requesting a full refund of both my rental payment and my $250 deposit.
It has now been 15 days and my deposit has still not been returned to my debit card.
When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, the first car they tried to give me was extremely dirty. I refused it. They then attempted to replace it, but there were no cars available on the lot. When I returned later, they provided a third vehicle — which was even dirtier than the first one. I had no choice but to take it due to time constraints, and I personally paid to have the vehicle cleaned.
The situation became much worse on the second day. The vehicle was electric and showed 35 miles of remaining range, yet it completely broke down about 1.5 miles from a charging station. I was stranded in the cold at night and waited approximately four hours for roadside assistance. It was extremely difficult to reach their emergency support line.
After the tow truck arrived, we brought the vehicle to a charging station, but the battery appeared to be defective and would not charge properly. I spent another four hours trying to resolve the issue. In total, I lost nearly eight hours dealing with a poorly maintained vehicle that should never have been rented out.
Additionally, the on-site management at the airport location was dismissive and unhelpful when I raised these serious concerns. There was no accountability and no effort to resolve the situation professionally.
Due to the unsafe condition of the vehicle, the significant time lost, and the lack of proper customer support, I am requesting a full refund of the rental charges as well as the immediate return of my $250 deposit.
Took deposit with no explanation.
I thought with Avis being a bigger name if may be a better experience but it was worse. No explanation when received, wouldn’t walk around the car just wanted me to sign for it. Same when I returned the car an then by magic half my deposit was taken with no explanation. No email no call nothing. Horrific
Prepay Scam
Online system will not allow me to use any of my cards to book a car. When I go onsite cards work fine. It appears that Avis is showing a cheaper option but not allowing individuals to actually access that option (pay in advance).
Review of Avis Customer Service (Hamilton)
I would give them lower than 1 star if it was possible.
I recently attempted to reserve an 8.5‑metre flatbed truck from Avis — a vehicle they clearly list on their own website. I called on Monday morning and spent 15–30 minutes on the phone while the sales rep contacted the Hamilton (Curtin Avenue) branch to confirm availability. I was told everything was fine and the booking was effectively sorted.
Fast‑forward to two days before pickup, after I had already arranged time off work, organised additional people to help with loading and unloading, and planned the entire job around the 8.5‑metre tray… Avis suddenly calls to tell me they only have a 6.5‑metre truck available.
I reminded them — again — that I specifically needed an 8.5‑metre truck. Only then did they casually mention that they haven’t had any 8.5‑metre trucks for a while. So why was I told otherwise? Why is it still advertised? And why did it take them days to notify me of something so fundamental?
The whole experience was disorganised, misleading, and frankly unacceptable. Their customer service can be summed up in one word: crap. When people are planning logistics, taking time off, and coordinating others, accuracy matters. Avis completely dropped the ball.
If you drive less than 75 miles, they'll charge you a fuel fee ($17.99) whether you refueled the vehicle or not
If you rent a car for less than 75 miles they will charge you automatically $17.99 for fuel regardless. It happened to me more than once. First time I had to go to some office clerk on site to get this refunded - took me about 20 minutes! Second time was yesterday, I informed the attendant when I returned the car - I specifically told him that I refueled it and do not charge me this fee - it still showed up on my receipt! I called customer service and they asked me to send them the gas receipt! This is simply a scam!
Car rental 11th December Geneva
If i could give a zero rating i would. They changed me 560 stg mainly for pre existing damage to the car before I rented it. Also a damage handling fee a cross border fee etc.
I feel robbed by this company I have rented for years from other rental companies and never been changed any of the fees they outlined. After months and insistence and provided time stamped photos of previous existing damage got a partial refund but still withholding a damage admin fee for damage i did not cause.
They are total sharks. Do not use them this was Geneva 11th December. Total nightmare!

Disappointing Experience with Avis Rent a Car – Greenville Airport & Customer Service
I had a frustrating and disappointing experience with Avis Rent a Car recently. It started at the Greenville Airport hub, where Kyle was handling the check-in process. Not only did he struggle to input my information correctly, but he also ended up charging me a higher fee than what was originally quoted. It was clear that he lacked the knowledge or training needed to properly assist customers.
The situation didn’t improve when I visited the Avis office at 458 Woodruff Rd, Greenville, SC. Michael, who was working there, was equally unhelpful and seemed unfamiliar with the rental process, which only added to my frustration.
Customer service was no better. Celisse at Avis Customer Service was downright rude. She didn’t even want to give me her name when I asked and was completely uncaring, showing no concern for the poor service I was receiving. I then reached out to Shawnakay, another manager, through the customer service phone line. Unfortunately, she also failed to offer any assistance, especially when my flight had been canceled twice, and I was facing a 12-hour drive back home. She didn’t offer any discount or even an apology for the inconvenience. It felt as though Avis doesn’t value its customers at all.
Overall, this experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I expected a much higher level of service from a well-known company like Avis. I will think twice before renting from them again.

first time I ever used Avis I booked online , total price , tax n fees and everything else. Arrival at the airport . Don't ever use this company . There's a lot of other better company out there , way better with no hidden fees. This is a scam company.

You know I have been loyal to Avis for no real reason other than connivence ! However this last-experience left me just with no choice but switch to another provider. Road assistance ? Forge it ? Stranded with a non functional vehicle while waiting for hours with all the legal statements (crap ) of unable to leave a vehicle unattended , then the tracking to final place for vehicle was missing. They know where the car was but gave me hard time back and forward for 2 days about the discharge of the vehicle from my account and then charged me for full rental and plus extras etc … Sorry to say but I should be the one compensated for having a non functional vehicle to begin with ! But all left by is un disputable charges and for sure one less customer for sure
Ahmad professional service
Ahmad helped us last week on Thursday. He was patient to explain the policy and even I was frustrated he stayed calm and polite. Great service and we truly appreciate it .
