Very poor communication skills. I happen to miss 2 bi-weekly payments and got no notification nothing. They are supposed to be pulling payments out of another account. No attempts been made.... See more

Scotiabank’s Failure and Frustration - Unreliable, Unhelpful, and Untrustworthy
I am extremely dissatisfied with Scotiabank. For months, all my local purchases in Jamaica were correctly deducted from my Jamaican Dollar account and all online purchases from my U.S. account, exactly as I requested.
However, on August 20th, a purchase at Fresh Approach supermarket was wrongly deducted from my U.S. account instead of my Jamaican Dollar account. This has never happened before, even at the same supermarket. When I contacted the Contact Centre, the representative gave me a dismissive explanation that “the U.S. account is primary for both Local and international transactions,” which makes no sense — if that were true, then all my local transactions should have been deducted from the U.S. account, not just this one.
I am very frustrated and disappointed. This inconsistency shows that something was changed on my account without my request or consent, and no proper explanation was provided. Your representatives are unhelpful and unknowledgeable, leaving me with no resolution.
Scotiabank has proven unreliable, and I am seriously considering moving my business elsewhere.
I've been a loyal Scotiabank customer…
I've been a loyal Scotiabank customer for two decades at least. Couple months ago I made a purchase with a Scotiabank credit card but had to return the product to the merchant. Boxes were unopened and even packing ties uncut. Nonetheless merchant withheld $120+ for what they call a "restocking fee" Their return/refund policy has two pages. One mentions restoking fee and the other says they refund fully. I opened the case with Scotiabank which representative closed the same day claiming that I got my refund but apparently she missed the part where I said I didn't get a full refund. She never returned my calls or emails. I contacted credit card company again and they opened the case again which was closed in a few weeks. Again w/out email notification. I called 1.800 number and after a lengthy conversation they said that merchant didn't do anything wrong but they failed to listen my argument about their return policy on the second page which doesn't mention restoking fee. I was very disappointed and closed my credit card account. It's very frustrating knowing that after many many years of being a loyal customer with large investment account and business account Scotiabank treats You like You're nothing!
Outdated tech
It's mid August 2025 and you can't register online for an account or credit card application using the new area code (942) that was introduced in April (4 months ago!!). You get a "Enter a valid Canadian phone number" error. Absolute dinosaurs.
The worst bank
This bank is a joke. They say that they might put on hold deposited cheques up to 5 days...it is always 5 days...to the last second. Last time I deposited cheque on Monday and after 8 days I still can not use my money. When I wanted some cash they didn't want to give me this..asked questions:" what do you need it for?". It is sick! This bank is bad. Stay away
So frustrating
My wife lost her card on our joint account so she called to cancel it. They cancelled mine my accident. I called to get them to allow mine to be a working card but the lady at the fraud department had such a thick accent when she asked the security questions I couldn’t understand 2 of the questions and she blocked my account and completely and now I have to go in to verify my identity at a branch. This wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if I didn’t life 5 hours from the closest branch. The app is always glitching as well. Next time we are in town we will be switching banks.
Worst bank I have ever experienced
Worst bank I have ever experienced. They are only open Monday to Friday and close at 3pm everyday. All 4 of their bank machines were not working today- Friday August 8th at 6:30pm. The 2 outside mall machines were down yesterday as well. Then to top it off the 2 inside mall machines were down all well. It is a weekend and my husband could NOT access his money. It is time to switch banks immediately.
WORST BBC BANK
gets 1 star because there are no 0…
gets 1 star because there are no 0 stars. Went to do a mortgage reduction plan as stated by them just paying interest and deductible on our mortgage for 6 months to help clear up debt. My husband was laid off twice last year so we were offered this help to help eliminate some debt we incurred. We were told the plan was set to go until we saw that they were planning to take out double mortgage and there clearly wasn’t enough money to cover that. Now it’s been 2.5 months trying to get things straightened around and they still havnt gotten it straight yet. Thought we had it set for the first payment coming out in 2 weeks but just got a call that they now want the money in two days. Management won’t contact me directly because there hiding behind closed doors and get the little guy to call me and deal with the anger and frustration from me. Now if we don’t come up with the money in two days to “start this program” we won’t be able to do it and now owe $5,000 in catch up due to there incompatibilities and mistakes. Scotia bank, you are the worst bank out there, you do not care about your customers who are struggling. I do know tho that you offer snacks and beverages to the one guy i know whom $40,000,000 from the lotto. Gosh they kiss his arse no problem. You actually make me sick and as soon as our mortgage is up we will be switching to anything BUT scotia bank. Good job guys
Terrible customer service over the phone
The worst bank i have ever been
One star it's too much for you, I been to chestermere Scotiabank with my husband we needed some information about mortgage, we already have one with Atb but we were planning to move it to Scotiabank ,we got a appointment on Saturday when we went there the guy was so rude he was talking to us like the bank is belong to him, my husband is a client since many years, and also I recognize all people are working there they are Indians, what about Canadian workers at least they are polite and they know how to deal with customer, but does people always thinking on a bad way because there brain is dirty it's a culture, we are here in Canada also don't forget that our money
Terrible customer service at the branch…
Terrible customer service at the branch level and contact Center.
This bank has many issues.
This bank has many issues.
Months ago I moved my account from Belleville to Trenton. Then I start applying for my old age and go to scotia 3 times to get a direct deposit slip.
I get a man brown skinned over the phone tell me the branch and transit number. I submitted it to service canada. I called because I wanted to double check. Every month my cppd goes into my account and july didn't so hours on cell to cpp what a lazy employee in that belleville office I call processing centre Im told I called June 11 and changed banks. Its not done this way you call and confirm and I said was it deposited . Its now the 1st and now cppd pay date 27.
I had to go bank, get new slip at my new branch where it's goes in go to service canada
The banks error the man gave me wrong information so service canada is getting ready in Timmins ont to switch over to old age it takes 5-6 months I get no cppd for July 2025 so bye bye stupid bank!
Went to open a new account
Went to open a new account, they said I have to make an appointment. I ask for their soonest appointment and it's over two weeks away. Absolutely horrible. They obviously don't need any new customers if they can't open an account same day or next day.
A different day:
Went to deposit cheques for my father into his account. They wouldn't do it as I don't have an account with them. The cheques were gov't issued. I don't see what me having an account there has anything to do with helping my dad.
There are better banks out there. Scotiabank, you should be ashamed.
Bad bad bad the worst bank ever
Bad bad bad the worst bank ever!
I asked to talk to a supervisor during a phone call to Scotiabank and it took about 1H wait on the phone without being able to talk to a manager!
This is unacceptable and certainly not a way to treat your customers!
Worst bank in the world
Worst bank in the world, these people customer service in Ocho Rios Jamaica is terrible, they don’t wanna work, they don’t wanna open new account even when u coming In at said time,
Steer clear of Scotia bank
Only gets 1 star because there is no zero. I’m not going to go into all the details but this is a prime example of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing. Apart from the many failures this bank won’t even do what they agree to do. No accountability from online staff to the VP of customer service. Even the VP of customer service sent out a generic letter without looking into issues. I came to this bank with good credit and my credit has steadily declined because most of my car payments go towards the principal instead of the actual payment and then get calls from collection department claiming I missed a payment. I have never missed a payment in 6 years. There is nothing I can do but rebuild my credit once this loan is paid off. Steer clear of this bank. Write letters, call managers, contact VP of customer service etc is all a waste of energy. Once they got you they don’t care about you or their own mistakes.

New
I visited Scotiabank to open a bank account, attracted by one of their benefits. Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by several issues I encountered. While Mr. Shan was helpful, I found another employee named Maria to be quite annoying. She asked numerous questions despite the many problems at their bank.
I requested to speak with her manager, who is named Bessie Menoudakis. Unfortunately, I found her to be rude and unfriendly. Instead of addressing my concerns, she defended her employee and argued with me as a customer. I have never encountered such an unprofessional manager in my life.
Scotiabank, you risk damaging your reputation by employing such ineffective personnel. The bank is located at 300 Borough Drive.
Estates
The worst experience ever. Went into Scotiabank to start the Estate process when my grandmother passed away. Was turned away advising that I need the Co-Executor that lived in another city to be with me (which wasn't true). Brought the other Executor over for the day by ferry to have another appointment. The Estate file was never submitted. Reached out to the Advisor, he said "it takes time", reached out again 2 weeks later with no response. Phoned the Estate department myself and was told that the file has not been submitted. They reach out to the Advisor, he then submits it under someone else's Estate, they get him to fix it, boom Estate file received 6 weeks after my initial appointment. I then get someone else dealing with the file locally who responds to my emails at first. The Estate department who I emailed 1.5 weeks ago has yet to get back to me. The Branch Manager who was supposed to contact me right away has yet to get back to me. TD Bank, absolute dream on the Estate side of things, no issues at all. Do not use Scotiabank!!
One year ago I requested a new bank…card
One year ago I requested a new bank card at a branch in NS .They took down my information and said that a new one would be mailed to me within two weeks. I never received it!? I later found out that it had been lost in the mail!!!?A year later I again request a new card and was told by the bank teller that my ID was out of date and that I couldn't even apply for a new one although I've had a account with this particular branch for over 20 years!! This is unacceptable behavior and I am very dissatisfied with the poor level of customer service at Scotiabank!
Worst Bank in Canada By FAR
The customer service employee was great, the bank itself is awful. My money is always on hold and I don’t make enough to be able to afford that. This is by far the worst bank in Canada. They shouldn’t be able to hold money that belongs to you, it’s bullshit.
