Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 79 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, describing it as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to navigate, often feeling like they were talking to a general call center. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with slow response times, a lack of follow-up on critical issues, and a perceived absence of urgency when problems arose, leading to unresolved concerns and repeated efforts to get basic information. The staff were often seen as unknowledgeable and unhelpful, with many instances where customers felt blamed for issues or were unable to get assistance, even from managers. Additionally, many people were unhappy with the pricing, citing unexpected, random, and extravagant fees that were not clearly communicated, and experienced price increases without additional value. Conversely, a few other people also felt that some individual customer representatives were helpful and patient, and appreciated the fast response times from support in certain situations.

You are better off using a calculator

You are better off using a calculator, pencil and paper to calculate payroll, then driving to each employee's bank to make a deposit of a paper check.
As someone mentioned in a previous review, it's the ol' bait & switch. We were sold on Paycor last fall, with promises it would be far better than ADP. Spoiler alert...they are worse than I could have imagined.
I have a myriad of issues, which I have emailed (because phone calls are apparently out of the question) to our original salesperson - they could not be bothered. Some of the highlights of our experience are:
1. Signed up with the promise of a 12 month promotional discount of 50% off both the monthly user fees and the complete monthly fee. After noticing these discounts were not applied after a couple of months, I began to ask. Here I am, in July, still paying full price every month and still not a single credit to our account. I am actually on a chat session now where I have asked about the status of our case...to which I was told the case has been closed and they cannot give me any further details but that she can escalate the case if I would like. This case has supposedly already been "escalated" twice.
2. Chat is the only means of communication. So, every time you chat, you start back at square one and the person on the other end usually can't help you anyway. They refer you to the online User Guide, which is completely generic and only gives the very basics of instruction.
3. When we first started with Paycor, we had two assigned Implementation Guides. My meetings with them were super fast, so I had several questions once we actually got into the routine of Paycor and issues came up. I thought having their direct emails would help...and maybe it would but they seem to be on PTO every other week. I also had one rep that completely ghosted me once we did finally have a conference call set, then when I reached out the following week to find out what happened he told me he had been sick. Most professionals follow up on things like that with their clients.
4. I'd love to get into the actual issues that I am having with the site but, honestly, I've probably only scratched the surface at this point since I cannot get answers to go further. I DO enjoy the payroll reports being as thorough as they are and the pay grid has been easy to understand and work with, but it's not worth all the other mess that Paycor has created. The time-keeping/clock system is already dated, the "Impersonation" feature that was extremely helpful during the one week that we had it has now been discontinued (but they've promised they are working on it and will have it back soon...that was six months ago), and overall the site Menu is all over the place to the point where I have to write down my steps to remember where I found things or else it takes me 30 minutes to retrace my steps when issue arises again.
Overall, I feel like I've given Paycor the benefit of the doubt and many, many chances to right their wrongs. Unfortunately, I am left holding the bag and now have to go back to the drawing board to do more research on a new payroll provider for the coming year.

Terrible implementation process and even worse after

Terrible implementation process, be prepared to work with half a dozen different people (all different functional responsibilities) who don’t communicate well internally and with client team. No timelines or status updates, it’s check boxes and keep moving. Even escalating there doesn’t do much, they blow the trumpets and pound on their chest a little but doesn’t move needle. As soon as the last box is checked, you are “done with implementation” and immediately tossed into general support. You would think maybe it gets better. It doesn’t. No names to contact and have to use 800 numbers and random chat people to get support. The support is horrible and takes forever, you get tossed to various people, wait for emails, etc. It’s too bad because the system once setup is pretty decent but everything around it just sucks. This is a big corporate machine experiment gone wrong. Probably will be bailing at some point and back to prior solution. Save the time and headache or venture at your own risk. By the looks of online reviews, we were not alone.

The roach motels of payroll.

The roach motels of payroll.
You can check in but you can't check out. These people are so disorganized and incompetent, it is a true miracle they are still in business. We notified them within the required time period that we were cancelling with them in lieu of another platform. They're now telling us that we never canceled, and they have deactivated one of our companies on the wrong date, leaving us in a lurch forcing us to use our new payroll company before it is ready. Nothing is easy with this company, and if you have a complex question you will get different answers from everyone you speak with. If they are on your list of payroll companies for consideration, I highly recommend avoiding. Poor service, antiquated platform and getting data out is tedious and time consuming.

Terrible company

Terrible company. Nothing worked correctly with integration as they promised. Customer service is terrible and they have no idea what they are talking about. They just read from a script they are given. Cancelled and move to new company. Now Paycor has shut off all employees from accessing their own payroll information.

Stay away from Paycor to save your life

Stay away from Paycor to save your life, their customer service is super bad, wasting so much time to call Paycor for nothing, they screwed up our clients tax filing, W2, and they are holding $110k taxes payment and not returning to us, they took the payroll fund from wrong bank account and our clients were very upset. Paycor staffs are under educated, they don't know what they are doing, never, never able to help, the implementation of payroll account set is completely wrong. We cannot connect with anyone for help and assistance. We wish we can give negative star, they are worst of the worst, unless you want a nightmare, otherwise, don't use Paycor to save your life.

Paycor - Neglectful and borderline malpractice

DO NOT MOVE TO PAYCOR. Paycor has been the worst payroll company I have experienced in 20 years. We have been using them for a little over a year. There is a serious issue with general competency. I've never felt so unsupported in my life and have zero confidence in using them. You do not get a dedicated person. You always have to wait for an email from a "general" CS rep. They love to give out case numbers which is a form of lip service.
You do not get a resolution to issues timely. You have to double check any adjustments you ask them to process for they have staff with minimal training working there so errors are made. We immediately had issues upon transferring over. They did not tell us that they would be using personnel to enter data "manually" because they did not have access to system files. They requested hard copies of reports to get this done which means I had to check each employee and ALL their information (address, SS, Direct Deposit, Taxes, benefits) you name it I had to check it just to ensure it was correct. I would done the entry myself if I knew but instead they created a fire drill for me to get up and running timely. Also, they screwed up our request for a corrected W2. Instead of making a manual entry, which is typcial, someone voided all paychecks for one employee for 2023 and reissued new checks to fix a W2. Even I knew that was not the correct process. Of course you can make a manual entry. They withdrew funds for these checks again although we already paid these in 2023 and said refund notices were sent to the agencies but I do not have proof of this after requesting. They set up our benefit accrual policies wrong. The platform has issues with on boarding which we cannot use, but we are paying for. Paycor has not resolved the issue for over a year. The program itself manages to over complicate simple data needed for employers and provides lots that our business does not need and makes it difficult to navigate. The standard reports are also useless and do not apply to our business. We do not need labor tracking for OSHA but we do need a standard YTD earnings report which should be available and is not. THE WORST COMPANY in the history of payroll companies. We are looking into another to switch by this June.

Paycor has the worst customer service…

Paycor has the worst customer service and support for their clients. When you actually get ahold of someone, they don't know anything. It is hard to reach employees to get support. And worse, there isn't a department or option when calling to speak with someone regarding urgent same day payroll issues. They are supposed to be a payroll processing company but it can take 24+ hours to receive a response and then you get a new person each time and basically have to start over explaining the issues. No continuity among service and no dedicated customer service teams and no service department or group set up to handle immediate urgent payroll needs. It's ridiculous. It asks for date of experience but this is always an issue every time you need support.

DO NOT USE PAYCOR for your business payroll sevice

Terrible company. I just now got W2 as employee and as an employer it has been difficult to find out why. They charge enormous fees for terrible payroll service.

They just deducted a huge amount for tax without warning me that they are making up for a mistake. My business account went into the overdraft column and PayCor says sorryl

Honestly baffled by how bad the support is!!

Ok I was spoiled from many years using ADP!
Management here wanted to go with Paycor, was recommended by someone at a bank & didn't listen to me. Well here I am 4 months into using Paycor and the number of hours this company has paid me to get reports, phone calls to resolve has cost the company more than if we had continued processing the payroll ourselves. Payroll is simple really.
Paycor has managed to make it difficult. There are some good things but the negative far outweighs the positive. The worse aspect of Paycor starts from the beginning. They promise to provide a "representative" and never do, with excuses each time you ask. Their reporting features is atrocious and when you call in for help no one is able to answer some basic questions. Honestly Paycor are you listening to your customers?

Customer Service Failure

Horrible customer service. Whoever is the EVP of this department should be removed immediately. The whole model needs to be re-mapped. I am shocked at how bad this has atrophied. I would suggest some C-Suite people from Paycor sit in as a proxy for an end-user experience (e.g. dealing with IT dept reporting requests, etc..) and just walk the process. I would LOVE to hear that distillation from their perspective. Normalizing for all the vitriolic "I can't get my payroll check" crazy reviews, all the ones that are cogent say the EXACT same thing. This is literally (except for actual platform, which seems to work well) the MAIN impression customers have of your company. BTW, I am able to write this because I have been on hold for over one hour today thus far to speak with a manager RE: an unresolved issue that has languished for 2 weeks. AFTER 4 call-ins to resolve and a promised "call from a manager" yesterday that never transpired. Ooof...

What a joke

What a joke! Why do the have live "customer service" people on staff? They can't or won't do anything for the employee and hide behind the phrase "for security purposes, you need to contact your companies' payroll dept. or HR". WHY ARE THEY EVEN ANWSERING CALLS??? This platform is NOT user/consumer/enduser friendly and provides NO HELP for former employees of a company. There is no way to retrieve a final paystub nor a W2. How are they still in business with such BAD service? All flash and no class. Use another HRIS platform.

Nickel and Dimed: My Experience with Paycor

My company stopped using Paycor in order to join a PEO that would allow us to strengthen our health benefits offerings while keeping costs low. While Paycor missed a quarterly filing or two semi-regularly, the issue was always rectified after a couple of months, and so I did not necessarily feel compelled to change payroll companies. The benefits savings were too good to pass up and so we left Paycor. Surprisingly, customer service responses were better/faster as a deactivated client. We received updates same day, which was not the case as active clients. We were essentially done with Paycor after the final quarterly filings but that is when things started getting rough again. At one point our report view access was removed before the 60-day contracted date, but that was fixed quickly. This week, I realized that one of the reports that is typically generated was not part of the quarterly packet. I understand that oversights happen so I reached out to Paycor to request access to the missing report, which should have been available (but was not) with the other reports. Paycor never acknowledged that they owed this report, would not tell me if it was available and when it was generated, and instead sent me service contracts ranging from $50-$100/month in order to receive reporting access again for the single report. If filing and reporting was part of their core offering, and we paid every invoice on time for 5 years, why are they charging for a single report that they had not made available to us while we had 60 days of access? A one-time $50 charge for the 1 report would be more reasonable than a contract with 30-day termination terms and other intricacies. Why couldn't it have been straightforward? It is frustrating and sad. Understanding how often companies change payroll providers, rejoining Paycor could have been in the cards for the future, but that is no longer true. I will be sure to share my experiences with business contacts that inquire about payroll providers in the future.

Worst payroll company out there

I wish I could give a negative star review. I switched because they were going to allow me to provide a tax credit that my previous payroll software was not going to allow during COVID. This has been one of the worst business decisions I've made. I've been cleaning up a mess that Paycor made for about 6 months now.

When I signed up, Paycor removed over 10K from my bank account because they thought I owed money for taxes. They did return it, but I had to make a deposit to be able to make my payroll before I got the funds back. That should have been the red flag to run. They have terrible customer service. It is beyond unhelpful. I only had one employee that we had to layoff eventually, and the termination pay in itself was a headache.

When I hired someone after we started to pick up again, I went back to my old payroll provider. But the fun didn't end there. In 2023, I got a notice that I did not file one quarter's returns. Getting information from Paycor has been like pulling teeth. They sent me the files, but when I asked for the proof that the deposits were made to the IRS, they sent the wrong quarter. I have followed up 11 times since asking for the right quarter, with 0 responses. I finally got things mostly settled on this issue (for which I will need to pay a penalty), when I was looking at the forms that paycor sent me. I noticed that every file for that quarter had a date within the quarter. Except for my 941 and schedule B - the exact forms that the IRS was missing. So it seems like they generated these forms more than 2 years later since the dates are inconsistent (and I did not have those forms in a previous download). I'm not completely unreasonable. I understand that it was my responsibility to make sure that they did their job. But I am livid that they did not let me know about the mistake when they had the opportunity to do so.

So don't use paycor unless you like dealing with mistakes and getting no response.

Paycor does a legitimate effort to…

Paycor does a legitimate effort to provide upgrades and new features to add value to their platform. The user interface has gotten better over the 4 years I have been using them. The one big red flag is that their customer service is deplorable. You do not have a dedicated rep to contact so if you have a standing problem, you have to start from square one every time with a new rep. Secondly, emailing them simply goes into a black hole. Never to be responded to. I cannot remember the last time my HR team has contacted customer support via email and received a response. Making an appointment is moving a mountain.

Stole $1000 from my small business

Stole $1000 from my small business. I have been in business for 10 years. My payroll cost had steadily increased so I decided to switch to save some money. The whole process was awful. I spent hours sending them copies of current payroll records, over 50 pdf attachments. Then they ghosted me. Straight up never completed my set up, would not return calls or emails, and never heard from them again it was very strange. So I move on a find a different payroll provider. Then to my shock they withdraw over $1000 from my account and said it was for payroll set up. I called them about it and they literally hung up on me. Dealing with them has been an absolute horrible experience the entire time.

Exposed sensitive employee information with no consequences.

There was a data breach and sensitive employee information was exposed. Paycor told my HR department that "if we are affected, Paycor will offer free credit monitoring, credit reports, and identity theft protection." Great.

Several months later, I was notified that I was personally affected. When I researched the offer, it didn't seem to exist. When my HR department reached out for more detail, the response was "Paycor will not be providing credit monitoring services to affected individuals."

So, it seems like they outright lied, and still there is no accountability for the data breach. Use at your own risk.

Bait & Switch. Stole $989 from Business. Sent us to collections for $1,138. No services provided.

Signed up and was promised certain services for my business. Day one I find out the sales agent lied and none of those services were included. I was told I could cancel same day without an early termination fee as the contract was not completed. Then a month later Paycor took $989 out of my business checking without my knowledge or permission for an “implementation recovery fee.” My bank filed fraud charges and refunded my business checking. Now several months later Paycor has sent my business to collections for $1,138 for the same “fee.” When a business is not under contract, when you bait and switch what you offer, when you steal from a business checking account, and promise no ETF and that the contract is not finalized - you do not get to then send us to collections. Don’t even speak on the phone or do business with Paycor or else you’ll end up just like me.
