Good Initial Result, but Concerns with Workmanship and Follow-Up
Our experience with Alfa Tiles took place in late 2024. As designers ourselves, we approached the project with fully developed plans. When we visited the showroom, these had already been reproduced by the team for discussion. As part of the deposit, we were told we would receive photorealistic renders similar to those displayed in their marketing; however, what we received were basic screenshots from a model, which did not meet those expectations.
Despite this, we chose to proceed. The build phase itself was efficient, contractors arrived on time each day, and progress was consistent. They communicated with us during the process, which we appreciated. However, we found that certain decisions required close oversight. For example, tiling below fixed furniture was clear not going to be installed, which would have compromised the wet room functionality if we had not identified and addressed at the time.
At completion, we were largely pleased with the overall appearance, the finished bathroom looks impressive. However, issues began to emerge soon after. A drawer was installed out of level, resulting in the handle scratching and becoming damaged. Although this was acknowledged during a follow-up visit, we did not receive any further response. A light switch installed as part of the project was also non-functional; this was initially attributed by Alfa Tiles to other works in the house, but on inspection it appeared to be due to loose wiring. To their credit, when a leak developed, they responded promptly and repaired it under the workmanship warranty.
We had monitored time spent on site and, based on the quoted hourly rate and shorter-than-anticipated project duration, expected the final labour cost to reflect this. During initial discussions, we were told that costs would adjust to reflect time taken. However, the final invoice included an additional “design fee” equivalent to the savings we had anticipated. This fee was attributed to a designer we had not interacted with, for a design we had originally supplied ourselves. While we queried this internally, we ultimately paid the balance in good faith.
Over the following year, a number of further issues arose. These included glass shelving installed with minimal tolerance, leading to cracking; door fixings loosening due to over-drilled holes; deterioration of epoxy grout at edges; and the unresolved drawer alignment issue. Of particular concern is the tiled sink, which we were advised to choose over a Corian alternative. The grout around the waste outlet has repeatedly failed and proven difficult to reseal, leading to ongoing water ingress and the likelihood that the sink will need to be replaced.
We compiled and shared a list of these concerns, recognising that some might reasonably be attributed to product performance, while others appeared to relate to workmanship. Our intention was to reach a fair resolution. However, we did not receive a response, and the outstanding issues remain unresolved despite the workmanship warranty still being in effect.
Overall, while we are somewhat pleased with the design outcome and acknowledge that Alfa Tiles undertook a bespoke project that not all providers would accept, our experience has been mixed. Based on the above, we would advise others to proceed with careful consideration and to ensure that all aspects of scope, pricing, and aftercare are clearly defined in advance.
EDIT - Response to the below.
We forwarded our original email on to Alfatiles following the response to our review. It was acknowledged and we were told they would then process it.
We heard nothing back, sent a follow up email to which we received no response and have little faith they will stand by their own warranty, which the response below acknowledges we are still within.
We never intend on using Alfatiles again and do not recommend them following this update.
